The Technical Manager is the primary technical contact for targeted customers with responsibility for identifying and developing new opportunities. Lead/support product development initiatives and support internal efficiency improvements which positively impact MCC's value added proposition with customers and reduce production costs.

Responsibilities:
- Assist Sales through (or lead) customer navigation in gathering competitive information and identifying (unmet) needs and other opportunities.
- Primary technical contact for targeted customers requiring both proactive and reactive interactions with customer Purchasing, Technical and Graphics staff.
- Provide field technical service and technical support for Sales and Customers both internally and at customer locations.
- Interact with application equipment suppliers as it relates to customer requirements and to up-stream navigate opportunities.
- Interact on a continuing basis with Customer Service/Planning, Graphics, Manufacturing and Sales in dealing with new or existing products, working closely to translate customer requirements into internal specifications and raw material selection
- Identify new product (or market) opportunities through research of packaging trends. Collaborate with Marketing and Sales to plan and execute development of identified new products.
- Lead and support identified product development initiatives including both business development and research projects.
- Interact closely with raw material suppliers, assist in the integration of beta-site and other supplier innovations into new/improved products.
- Assist and support plant cost and efficiency improvements through the design of trials and experiments, conducting trials and experiments and laboratory evaluations.
- Position requires travel for both internal and customer visits and trial. Extensive travel, up to 90% required, often at last minute, and sometimes on weekends, as well as international travel.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Occasional lifting of cartons weighing up to 40-45 lbs may be necessary.
- Required to work around the labeling areas and in most cases these areas are cramped, congested, and may be wet. May have to walk underneath conveyors. Safety shoes may be required at times when visiting customers. During customer visits, work hours may require attendance on all three shifts at times.

Qualifications:
- Four year college degree; or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 4-6 years of experience in a similar role, and/or have 4-6 years of technical experience in the manufacturing of prime labels.
- Knowledgeable in container types and printing/converting materials and technologies related to package decoration.
- Strong understanding of label application equipment, specifically related to shrink sleeves.
- Mechanical aptitude and basic math skills are essential.
- Must have command of English language and strong communication skills for communication with customers and within Fort Dearborn, at all levels.
- Must be able to make sound decisions, act calmly and professionally.
