What We Offer


As the Purchasing Specialist you will provide quantity and cost estimating, data entry and purchasing services in adherence with generally accepted home building principles and Mattamy standardsYou also provide support to the Design Studio by carrying out pricing of pre-planned options and extras, addressing day-to-day concerns of site and office staff related to items in the Design Studio, inputting model specific book codes in the JD Edwards database and carrying out maintenance of the database as directed. This involves performing various independent tasks as well as assisting the Contracts Manager and working to provide The Best Homeowner Experience.




  • Adhere to division-wide Purchasing requirements as they pertain to information required for entry into BuildPro and JD Edwards, and act as the key gatekeeper ensuring consistency, accuracy, and adherence to such.
  • Draft subcontractor contracts and addendums, and input bids into JD Edwards.
  • Liaise with trade and/or builders, to resolve issues and questions, as needed.
  • Coordination of tendering process including monitoring construction start dates, organization of architectural drawings and all other tender documents. Assist in the tender process including review of bids, follow ups and document creation
  • Assist in PPO & Site/Lot Specific cost build ups
  • Offer support to the Design Studio and ensure system ease of use for Design Consultants.
  • Prepare area take-offs from working or design drawings for budget or tender purposes; assist in the peer-review work process.
  • Assist in resolving problems and concerns, providing clarity and assistance to trades and sites related to upgrades, options sold and scopes of work.
  • Participate in site visits in order to check performance of trades against scope of work/contract.
  • Assist in Managing lumber, including takeoffs.
  • Distribution of plans to suppliers in order have final lumber take-offs and quotes completed.
  • Revise take-offs to reflect actual amounts/usage as determined by site walkthroughs
  • Ensure suppliers have the most current information including scopes, architectural drawings and all other required documents.


What You Bring


  • College Diploma in Estimating, Architectural Technology or Construction Project Management and/or relevant related practical experience.
  • 3+ years of progressive experience in the residential construction industry, including experience gained through education cooperative program placements.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of the Alberta Building Code.
  • Experience with reading/checking architectural drawings
  • Experience in lumber and material estimating preferred.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude required
  • Strong administrative and organization skills.
  • Self-motivated, prioritizes tasks and works independently with minimum supervision.
  • Strong analytical ability required to accurately compare and contrast trade price quotations.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel). Competent in AutoCAD is preferred.
  • Previous experience in JD Edwards would be preferred.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze budgets and reports.
  • Understanding of the processes of budgeting, tendering and construction.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines
