The Senior Director of GSP Enablement will have extensive experience in leading procurement operations within the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry, combined with a strong background in global sourcing and supplier management. They will be a highly collaborative leader who can help build and foster a high-performance team culture. This leader will manage a diverse team of 2-4 direct reports. This role requires both inspiring people with clarity and followership and influencing peers and in direct team members to partner. They must have the demonstrated ability to work with leaders across all functions and at the most senior levels of an organization to define and implement procurement strategies across a global organization.
- Partnering internally to GSP with CPO and the leadership team that includes Sourcing Heads and the Operational Excellence Head to build or evolve capabilities such as, Analytics / Market Intelligence, Category Management, Supplier Relationship Management, Supplier Onboarding / Supplier Diversity / Sustainability / Risk Management, and Digital / AI Enablement.
- Collaborating with both internal GSP team and external stakeholders such as Accounting, Finance, Legal and Source to Pay (STP) Global Process Owner to help evolve and execute the STP roadmap and implement associated systems / tools
- Acting as GSP point of contact for Controller on SOX related compliance, Corporate Audit on Spend Management Compliance, Legal on Contract Compliance, and other Compliance functions as required through effective Governance by ensuring scalable policies with underlying robust processes
- Strategic Engagement: a seasoned leader who can partner with different stakeholders, internal and external, to develop fit-for-purpose capabilities that can scale-up with stated purpose of the company
- Team & Organizational Management: manage a diverse team that will require both inspiring people to follow and influencing peers and in direct team members to partner
- Thought Leadership: ability to network with industry peers and supplier partners to understand trends as well as benchmarks and translate those for internal BioMarin use effectively
- Program Planning: execute programs, both broad and deep, with articulated strategic objectives that are linked to corporate and functional priorities
- Stakeholder Communication: develop effective communications and associated change management plans that involve the entire stakeholder spectrum… executives, peers, direct / project teams, business partners, and suppliers
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain Management or related field. Scientific degree and MBA / post-graduate qualifications in a related field would be desirable.
- Extensive experience in Sourcing, Procurement Operations / Systems, and Consulting preferably within the pharma / biotech / life sciences sector
- 12+ years of experience in Sourcing, Procurement Operations, and Supplier Management
- Knowledge of Procurement tools; specific expertise in Ariba / SAP and CLM environment required
- Experience with optimizing tail spend
- In-depth understanding of external environment and supplier relationship models.
- Strong knowledge of finance (cost benchmark, financial audit with key suppliers) and legal matters (contracting)
- Significant experience working in a matrix (global/ regional) business environment
- Strong networking skills and a proven ability to build productive and collaborative relationships with stakeholders and business partners
- Strong analytical, written and verbal communications, and influencing skills
- Ability to work in high pressure environment, often under tight deadlines
- Periodic travel will be required to various BioMarin sites and supplier locations
