Your Role 
We are looking for an Ingredients Development Specialist to join our R&D team, who will report to the New Ingredient Development Manager. In this role, you will be responsible for searching, developing, and evaluating new alternative and sustainable ingredients with a low environmental impact (carbon footprint and water/land use), in order to support Affinity Petcare’s environmental commitments for the future.
 
What you will do 
  • Search and/or develop alternative ingredients that contribute to decrease the environmental impact of our operations:
    • Screening of sustainable ingredients for pet food.
    • Look for potential suppliers and ensure sufficient ingredient availability to supply Affinity operations.
  • Evaluate the supplier’s sourcing practices and calculate the lifecycle analysis (LCA) to ensure that they are truly sustainable.
  • Nutritional assessment of the ingredients to ensure that they can contribute to the nutrition of dogs and cats.
  • Assess the potential hazards that the new ingredients can pose to dogs and cats.
  • Coordinate with Ingredient Development team (Formulation) the analysis and nutritional evaluation of new ingredients
  • Coordinate with Vendor Assurance (Quality) and Purchasing teams the supplier homologation
  • Coordinate with Research team the “in vivo” studies to evaluate the new ingredients in dogs and cats, eventually including pilot plant trials
  • Collaborate with Research’s Technical Communication group to help create sustainability claims on the new ingredients developed.
 
  
What we are looking for 
  
  • The candidate must hold an Animal Science or Food Science related degree.
  • Knowledge about sustainability science and management, as well as animal nutrition are highly desirable.
  • Desirable 1+ year of experience in a similar position.
  • The candidate needs to have influencing, innovative and creative skills.
  • Energy and leadership to carry on and implement the new ingredient projects.
  • The candidate will be efficient and pragmatic, with a critical thinking.
  • Being able to work autonomously and in a responsible way.
  • High capacity for teamwork and team spirit.
  • Easy-going with excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary
  • Being passionate for dogs and cats is desirable.
  • Fluent in English is necessary. Being able to communicate in Spanish, French and Italian is highly desirable.
  • Availability to travel frequently to visit suppliers (30% time)
  • Driving license.
