Inventory Accounting Supervisor

The Inventory Accounting Supervisor ensures timely and accurate completion of all Inventory Accounting and Control related activity. The position reports to the Sr. Director of Accounting Operations.

What You'll Do

  • Ensure the accurate and timely completion of month-end close process, including inventory journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and reconciliation of warehouse management, merchandising and financial systems
  • Develop and maintain working relationship with distribution centers, merchandising, and store operations
  • Conduct analysis to monitor and solve inventory problems, including aged in transit, divisional transfers, DC to DC, and store to DC  transfers
  • Review and resolve all interfaces to and from inventory module, including all stock ledger and inventory discrepancies, by coordinating with IT, warehouse, and other system owners
  • Reconcile all inventory, inventory in-transit, RTV, prepaid inventory, inventory reserves, and accruals
  • Manage all inventory related reserves and accruals, including but not limited to aging, markdown, shrinkage, RTV, and freight
  • Monitor all inventory cost components to validate that inventory is recorded properly and timely
  • Monitor inventory-in-transit and partner with DC for timely booking of inventory
  • Manage the RTV process, from initiation to completion and vendor chargeback
  • Coordinate physical inventories (including internal cycle counts) and investigate inventory variances to make sure the accurate counts are recorded timely
  • Partner with IT to identify and resolve system synchronization issues
  • Develop processes to proactively identify issues
  • Perpetuates an energy-packed work environment that fosters teamwork, creates benchmarks, recognizes high performance, develops and trains team members
  • Comply with all internal control procedures and provide auditors timely and accurate information during year-end audit and quarterly review
  • Ensure proper internal controls and SOX narratives are in place and functioning correctly
  • Manage department deliverables, provide guidance and support to staff members through effective goal setting, performance management, and professional development

What You'll Need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance
  • MBA preferred
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in retail or  wholesale accounting areas (Inventory Accounting, Inventory Control)
  • Minimum 4 years of supervisory experience
  • Detailed understanding of inventory accounting and merchandise payable
  • Solid working knowledge of major ERP, inventory and accounting systems, such as Oracle and Lawson
  • Advanced working knowledge of Excel
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Proven success in staff development and future growth planning
  • Proven success in supervising within a dynamic and changing environment
  • Desire and ability to identify opportunities for improvement and implement processes and programs accordingly
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to give honest, direct feedback
