Role Overview
The Senior Foreman, Mine Operations provides leadership and oversight for all aspects of mine operations during assigned shifts, with a strong focus on safety, production performance, and operational efficiency. This role is accountable for the execution and reinforcement of health and safety programs while ensuring work is conducted in compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
The Senior Foreman exercises overall control of shift activities, delegating load and haul responsibilities to the Production Foreman while maintaining accountability for overall operational outcomes. The role routinely assumes direct responsibility for support equipment activities, projects, and may designate qualified personnel to these functions to support training and employee development.
This position ensures production targets are achieved through effective application of operating standards and the strategic deployment of personnel and equipment to maximize productivity and efficiency. Maintaining clear, timely, and effective communication with the Production Foreman and supervisors across related departments is essential to ensure alignment, coordination, and continuous improvement in Mine Operations.
Core Responsibilities
- Responsible for the execution and reinforcement of health and safety programs.
- Exercising overall control of shift activities, delegating responsibility for load/haul to the Production Foreman.
- Routinely taking charge of support equipment activities, primary crushing, projects and blasting but may designate other qualified personnel to do so for training or employee development purposes.
- Ensuring production targets are achieved.
- Applying operating standards and employing personnel and equipment to maximize effectiveness.
- Maintaining effective information exchange with Production Foreman and supervisors in related departments
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Skills & Competencies
- Must possess an open pit shift boss certificate and have a minimum of 8 years varied operations supervisory experience within an open pit mining environment.
- Demonstrated ability to organize, direct and supervise.
- Solid written, verbal and group presentation skills.
- Experience with MS office software.
- Use of a dispatching system would be a benefit.
