Suffolk University is excited to announce the career opportunity for Study Abroad Program & Outreach Manager! Consistent with Suffolk’s mission to “provide students with experiential and transformational learning opportunities that…reach across the globe, and lead to extraordinary outcomes,” and in line with the University’s strategic vision and plan, the Study Abroad Program & Outreach Manager is charged with expanding student access to, awareness of, and participation in real-world, experiential and global learning opportunities. At the same time, the Study Abroad Program & Outreach Manager works to build bridges between international and domestic students and to increase international student engagement on campus through creative programming and cross-campus partnership. This position supports and promotes the work of the entire Center for International Programs and Services (CIPS) through active collaboration with the International Student Services Office (ISSO) and the Study Abroad Office (SAO), as well as with a wide variety of campus partners and stakeholders, including both administrative and academic units.

Study Abroad Advising: Advises a select cohort of Suffolk students on study abroad opportunities, providing high quality, individualized support throughout the entire arc of the education abroad experience (from initial inquiry to reentry and beyond). Actively supports study abroad program selection and academic integration, student visa advising, pre-departure programming and career-focused programming for study abroad returnees. Serves as a liaison to the Suffolk University Madrid Campus and plays a central role in all Madrid-focused initiatives, or as assigned by the Director of CIPS.

Marketing, Outreach & Promotion: Plays a key role in the development and delivery of the Center for International Programs and Service’s comprehensive marketing and promotional strategy in order to bring greater visibility to and engagement in global learning opportunities.

  • Increases student and faculty / staff awareness of curricular and co-curricular education abroad opportunities, the outcomes and benefits associated with these opportunities, CIPS-sponsored programs, and globally-themed campus-wide events by coordinating the design and dissemination of high quality print and digital marketing materials. Particular attention should be paid to addressing and demystifying perceived obstacles to participation in global learning, and to reaching students who are traditionally underrepresented in education abroad.
  • Manages content of all CIPS social media accounts, staying abreast of the latest trends, and implements new tools as needed / appropriate. 
  • Oversees the Center’s web presence, working collaboratively with all team members and relevant campus partners to ensure information / content is accurate, accessible, and engaging for all constituent groups, including students, parents, and faculty / staff.
  • Works with CIPS team members to further develop, improve, and manage the digital communication flow for both admitted / current international students and prospective / current / returned education abroad students.
  • Launches both far-reaching and more targeted outreach campaigns to promote international / domestic student interaction and engagement, as well as event attendance. To achieve this, the Study Abroad Program & Outreach Manager coordinates student ambassador program(s), works closely with the coordinator of the Home Away From Home program and the Exchange Coordinator, and engages regularly with international student leaders and study abroad alumni.
  • Helps build bridges to academic departments and administrative units whose focus and work complements that of CIPS. Liaises with a broad range of campus partners, including, but not limited to: INTO Suffolk, the Office of Marketing and Communications, the Career Development Center, Student Leadership and Involvement, and the Center for Community Engagement. Supervises student workers, as needed, to assist with the above.

Event Planning & Coordination: Serves as the lead event planner for the CIPS team, liaising regularly with CIPS staff and campus partners to coordinate a variety of high quality social and informational events and programs for international and domestic students, for faculty, and for Suffolk’s international partners.  

  • Examples of events / programs where the Study Abroad Program & Outreach Coordinator will make a significant contribution include, but are not limited to, the following: International Education Week, International Night, Home Away From Home, International Student Orientation, Study Abroad Info Sessions, Study Abroad Fair, Pre-Departure Orientation, Passport Day, Returnee Dinner, Photo Contest, etc.
  • Develops new events and programs, and improves/curates existing programs, as needed.
  • Works collaboratively with administrative coordinators to coordinate room reservations, catering orders, technology needs, and transportation, etc. Follows up with all stakeholders to ensure smooth, seamless operation of all events.
  • Maintains a comprehensive programming calendar for the CIPS team.
  • Frequently represents CIPS at sponsored events or ensures appropriate coverage in her / his absence.

Requirements/Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Education, Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, or another relevant field; master’s degree preferred.
  • Professional experience: 1-3 years, preferred
  • Desired Skills / Knowledge / Abilities:
    • Works well as part of a team and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a dynamic, fast-paced environment; highly organized and strong attention to detail
    • Creative, outside-the-box thinker and problem solver
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Builds productive relationships with students, peers, managers, university stakeholders, and parents from a range of linguistic, ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
    • Technical / Administrative:
      • Highly proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) or comparable design and photo / video production and editing software
      • Web design / editing experience highly desirable
      • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
      • Proficiency across a wide range of social media platforms, such as Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube, etc.
    • Familiarity with higher education and college / university structure and campus organization
    • Previous study, work, and / or service abroad strongly preferred
    • Proficiency in one or more languages other than English desirable
