Suffolk CARES Case Manager

Description

The Suffolk CARES Case Manager position is a full-time, 12-month professional position in the Student Affairs Office, reporting to the Director of Student Support and Outreach. The individual in this position provides high-level direct support to students, facilitating personal and academic success while encouraging the development of student’s adaptive skills. 

  

Primary Responsibilities 

  

Provide direct student support by managing a case-load of students, working closely with campus partners and appropriate resources so that students may become more personally and academically successful. Empower students to become self-advocates and initiate change to advance their situations. Aid students in the creation of success plans that encourage them to utilize their resources on campus. Follow through on student needs.  Attentive to detail, and timely execution of follow up items.  Ensure the proper documentation of each student interaction by utilizing Maxient software for notetaking. 

  

Ability to navigate complex issues using mature judgement and empathetic counsel.   Case Managers must be able to provide well-reasoned advice consistent with university policy.  Ability to handle sensitive information and respond to urgent situations in a calm, professional manner.   

  

Able to work independently and also able to participate as a member of the CARES team and Student Affairs Division eagerly and willingly when needed. 

  

Collaboration and Communication 

  

Ability to communicate information effectively to and with a diverse community including faculty, staff, students and campus partners in person, on Zoom, phone and email.  Collaborate with other departments throughout the University to coordinate the delivery of services and ensure student needs are met. Assess, create and implement successful methods of support to students. Meet weekly with the Suffolk CARES Case Management Team and the University CARE Team. Other duties as assigned including nights and weekends as dictated by program and divisional expectations. 

  

The CARES team works as part of a larger, University effort to promote academic and personal success. 

  

Marketing  

  

Works with student staff to create diverse, relevant and engaging print, web and social media (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter (X)) marketing that promotes services of  Suffolk CARES Program and Suffolk CARES Pantry. 

  

Emergency Grant Administration 

  

Manage the outreach and administration of the Emergency Grant Process within CARES, Maxient and Workday 

  

Other: 

Masters in Higher Ed, Counseling or related field is preferred.   

Demonstrated work in higher education and college or university students 

Understanding and demonstrated ability to work within the complexities of student development and intersecting identity theories impacted by larger societal issues.
