Description

Reporting to the Manager of Benefits, the Senior Benefits & Compensation Specialist is responsible for benefit programs including administration, compliance, federal/state regulations, vendor management, communications and education.  Provides daily guidance to Benefits Specialists and/or Benefits Coordinator.  Provides support for the Workday Human Capital Management system including reporting and maintenance. 

Primary Responsibilities:

Ensures that benefit and compensation programs are administered in compliance with all applicable federal and state laws.  Develops reports and information for benefit programs for internal purposes and external reporting requirements.  Ensures that information is communicated in compliance to all parties.  Responsible for reporting and information for non-discrimination testing and 5500 filings, ACA reporting and other compliance reporting.  Works with internal/external counsel, auditors, vendors and consultants as needed.  Lead the open enrollment process from beginning to end.

Administers the University’s retirement plan including new enrollments and communicates information to employees regarding program.  Ensures that changes are made correctly in Workday and with external providers.  Approves distributions and ensures compliance.  Facilitates with plan changes for updates in plan design and legislative changes by working with Retirement Planning Committee and external counsel.

Administers time off benefit programs including vacation, health absence, bereavement, parent leave, jury duty.  Communicates policy changes, updates all communications, provides support to employee and manager questions.  Coordinates program changes with internal departments. 

Provides guidance to Benefits Specialist and oversees the day-to-day administration of benefit offerings.  Responds to more complex employee questions and provides information for new hires.   Explains benefit policies, procedures and laws to employees and retirees.  Organizes annual open enrollment and supports Workday process. Administers retiree medical plan.    Supports benefit events and program offerings to employees.  Provide educational information about benefit programs.  Reconciles monthly medical and dental billing.  Acts as back up to other benefits employees.  Support other Human Resources initiatives as needed.

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with five or more years of relevant experience required
  • CCP and CBP, preferred
  • Not-for-profit benefits experience, preferred
  • Experience working with self-insured and fully-insured plans, and defined contribution plans
  • Working knowledge of MAPFML, FMLA & ADAAA regulations
  • Experience with Workday (HCM system)
  • Strong computer skills including: MS Office (Word and Excel), Outlook, Workday, preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must be committed to providing the highest level of customer service and responsiveness
  • Demonstrated experience working in a high volume, deadline-oriented customer focused environment
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be creative and proactive. Must have ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and handle difficult situations
