What we offer

The Structural Engineer will lead the integration of SAMI (Stelumar Advanced Manufacturing Inc.) systems to ensure structural integrity of load-bearing structures and building structures while overseeing all structural requirements for wood framed modules, panels, and related components. This role is responsible for developing preliminary structural designs within the Product Development Team (PDT) and providing professional engineering approval through the stamping and sealing of structural documents for both building components and complete building design as required.

 

What you’ll do

  • Coordinate the integration of SAMI systems to guarantee the structural soundness and integrity of load-bearing and building structures.
  • Supervise all structural requirements concerning panels, modules, and system elements, ensuring compliance with project specifications for both Part 9 and Part 3 construction types.
  • Produce initial structural designs including early-stage analyses, conceptual solutions, and layout suggestions.
  • Stamp and seal structural design documents, assuming full professional accountability for their approval and for confirming adherence to engineering criteria and standards.
  • Act as the Engineer of Record for building permit submissions, as required.
  • Offer structural guidance and ongoing support to draftspersons and designers during the entire design development phase.
  • Lead project meetings, presentations, and collaborative sessions with clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Facilitate cross-departmental collaboration to maintain alignment and address potential design discrepancies.
  • Verify that all structural activities comply with relevant building codes, industry standards, and internal quality-control procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

 

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or related field.
  • Deep understanding of the Ontario Building Code and CSA 086.
  • Desired minimum 10+ years of progressive experience in structural engineering or similar role.
  • Must hold a valid Professional Engineer (PE) License with the ability to stamp and seal engineering documents.
  • Problem-solving, detail-oriented, and adaptability.
  • Exceptional communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in Design Software (AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Proficiency in project management tools (MS Project, Primavera).

Bonus points

  • Previous exposure to offsite/prefabricated/modular construction
  • Experience with engineering concrete and steel structures.
  • Familiarity with automation tools and data integration for manufacturing workflows.
  • LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP)/LEED Green Associate (LEED GA)
