Mattamy Asset Management (MAM) is an asset manager focused on building a diversified portfolio of investments across geographies, asset classes and the spectrum of risk and return. Mattamy Asset Management is the parent company of Mattamy Homes Canada and Mattamy Homes U.S., which together comprise the largest privately held homebuilding platform in North America. Stelumar Advanced Manufacturing Inc. (SAMI), is the newest business enterprise launched under the Mattamy Asset Management umbrella (leveraging the name of a former Mattamy operation known for creativity and innovation). SAMI will be a modern, advanced cabinet-manufacturing company that will utilize automation and robotics, in a brand-new facility to be built in the GTA. The business is expected to grow significantly once production capability is built and as it scales up to meet demand – cabinets are a central component of a home, whether in the kitchen, bathroom, living room or bedroom, and our goal is to provide thoughtful design and built-ins meant to take advantage of every cubic inch of homes, making them more desirable and livable for customers.

What we offer

The Cabinetry & Millwork Designer will be responsible for the delivery of a suite of comprehensive design plans for prefabricated cabinetry, millwork, and furniture compatible with Mattamy Homes products. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with leading full-cycle cabinetry design processes for roboticized manufacturing environments. Based on pre-existing floor plans, blueprints, and autoCAD illustrations, this role will develop detailed plans and 3D models, consult on materials, colours, finishes, and lighting. This role will advise on manufacturing process, staffing needs, and ancillary considerations. The key deliverable is a strategic portfolio of products focused on the optimization of space and an exceptional end-user experience.

 

What you’ll do

  • Design kitchen and vanity cabinetry layouts based on existing floorplans and organizational needs; create concepts, mock-ups, and final designs
  • Work with and extend a catalogue of cabinets within our cabinet design software
  • Develop detailed plans and 3D models showing arrangement of walls, dividers, displays, elevations, cross-sections; responsible for data creation and construction library management
  • Read blue-prints, shop drawings, and autoCAD illustrations, consult with internal and external subject matter experts to understand the organizational requirements
  • Consult on materials, colours, finishes, lighting, and other items, taking into account ergonomic and occupational health standards
  • Advise on manufacturing process, staffing needs, and other considerations
  • Provide constructive feedback and consultation to senior management
  • Responsible for continuous improvement regarding product knowledge and design trends
  • Deliver product quality of the highest possible standards that can be manufactured within specified timelines and budgets
  • Optimize use of space, material costs, and modularity
  • Other tasks as required
     

What you bring

  • Bachelor of Interior Design, Bachelor of Craft and Design, Bachelor of Furniture Design, or significant carpentry experience
  • Ability to read blueprints, shop drawings, technical spec sheets, and translate that into actionable cabinetry design parameters
  • Experience leading full-cycle furniture design process
  • Understanding of applicable legislative parameters (e.g. Building code) an asset
  • Manufacturing experience, particularly in the context of large-scale CNC woodworking
  • Strong knowledge of furniture manufacturing (materials, finishes, hardware, etc.)
  • Thorough furniture construction and processing understanding
  • Understanding of residential construction industry beneficial
  • Utmost integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including collaboration, communication, and relationship building

Bonus points

  • Experience in roboticized manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in relevant software (e.g. CNC programming, 3D modelling, autoCAD, Mozaik, Sketchup, 20/20 or similar)
  • Experience with HOMAG iX software is an asset
