What we offer

Reporting to the Contracts Manager, the Purchasing Specialist supports the overall procurement process and delivery of products/services to multiple high-volume communities through providing quantity and cost estimating, data entry, contract administration and purchasing services in adherence with generally accepted home building principles and Mattamy standards. 

 

What you’ll do

  • Adhere to departmental processes, and requirements for purchasing and production information required for entry into BuildPro and JD Edwards (JDE), ensuring consistency, accuracy and adherence to such.
  • Reviews drawings for consistency between architecture, sales & marketing information; ensures conformance with JDE system requirements.
  • Quantity take-offs for residential projects from working drawings for budgeting and tendering purposes.
  • Support the Contracts Managers with the tendering process of new communities by soliciting bids and perform initial review of bids and identify any clear discrepancies, following up with trades as required.
  • Prepare and administer contract documents to subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Establish and maintain working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Maintains and updates ERP with takeoff’s, selection rules, and template setups.
  • Maintains and updates the Design Center Options Master database in JDE as required under the direction of the team lead. Carries out product build-up (cost code assignment) templates with assistance as required for Planned Purchase Orders (PPO).
  • Maintains Option & Site/Lot Specific Cost Build-Ups and Customs.
  • Assist the Contracts Manager, as required, in analysis of cost comparison and differences in products and services.
  • Work with the Design Studio updating and working through discontinued products on offer.
  • Updating and upgrading offerings in keeping with design trends on a regimented schedule.
  • Works with team members troubleshooting product library information in JDE and ensure system information is adequate for use.
  • Support the Contracts Manager with the Change Order process by soliciting updated pricing, manages applicable Purchase Orders (POs) in JDE; addresses late changes and processes as required.
  • Participates in site visits to check performance of trades against scope of work/contract.
  • Release POs appropriately to meet construction schedule.

 

What you bring

  • College Diploma in Estimating program, Architectural Technology, Construction Project Management, Business Administration and/or relevant related practical experience.
  • Fully conversant with the Ontario Building Code.
  • Experience with reading/checking Architectural, Structural, Mechanical & Electrical drawings.
  • Strong mathematical aptitude required along with a systems logic orientation.
  • Self-motivated, prioritizes tasks and works independently with minimum supervision.
  • Strong analytical ability required to accurately compare trade price quotations.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office (Word, Excel). Competent in Bluebeam & AutoCAD.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze budgets and reports.
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to meet deadlines.

 

Bonus points

  • Experience in the residential construction industry, including experience gained through education cooperative program placements.
  • Experience in estimating residential construction.
  • Previous experience in JD Edwards.
