IREX, with support from the U.S. Embassy Libya, implements the Very Verified Libya program to help Libyan youth develop the critical and analytical thinking and emotional regulation skills they need to be able to discern misinformation and manipulative content from factual reporting. Libyan youth will also develop the digital wellbeing and awareness to navigate their information space, and the digital citizenship and empathy-building skills to engage in community life as the country takes tentative steps toward reconciliation and peacebuilding.   

IREX is looking for:  

  • Curriculum development and online training experts with an essential understanding of media literacy; 
  • Experts in related disciplines, such as journalism, educationpsychology, and fact checking. 
  • Knowledge of youth development, including online trainings, organizing, recruitment, and mentoring. 
  • Knowledge of North Africa, specifically the Libyan context. 

About the positions:   

IREX is seeking experts who have strong experience in developing and delivering online training materials. IREX prefers consultants with expertise and experience in the field of media literacy and/or related disciplines, including topics such as fact-checking, disinformation, stereotypes, social media influence, visual literacy, data literacy, digital safety, hate speech, journalism standards, and media productionparticipatory online training approach for youth audiences is preferred. There is no minimum and no maximum number of experts to be selected under this call.    

The experts will work with Very Verified Libya staff in Amman, Jordan and Washington, DC on a variety of assignments such as adapting online curriculand developing facilitation guides.  Experts selected will be hired for assignments based on background and availability.   

Example Duties and Responsibilities:  

  • Develop, review and/or adapt media literacy online training resources; 
  • Review and contribute to training facilitator guides; 
  • Other tasks as assigned, based on consultant’s background and program needs.  

Preferred skills and qualifications:  

  • Understanding of media literacy; 
  • Expert knowledge and use of interactive methods in developing curricula and training materials; 
  • Demonstrated understanding of pedagogy; 
  • Experience in training (both virtual and in-person); 
  • Knowledge and field-level experience in working with youth preferred; 
  • Experience in youth development preferred; 
  • Demonstrated understanding of media landscape and media environment in Libya and/or North Africa a plus; 
  • Languages: fluency in Arabic and working proficiency in English required. Knowledge of Libyan Arabic a plus. 

Preference will be given to individuals with expertise in both curriculum development and training.
