Program Associate

Domestic Washington, District Of Columbia



  • Participate as full member of three or more program teams, providing program coordination and backstopping support;
  • Research and/or write summaries of project activities and results to contribute to quarterly and other program reports for funding agencies;
  • Track and analyze work plan activity progress toward project objectives and indicator data;
  • Track and analyze financial data including program expenditures, program budgets, forecasts and recasts, and grantee and vendor payments;
  • Process payments according to IREX procedures;
  • Manage consultant and sub award policies and procedures, agreements, program and financial reporting, and tracking;
  • Provide support to social media and networking platforms;
  • Prepare internal and external communications materials;
  • Manage operations, logistics, and travel;
  • Contribute to design, finalization, and implementation of technical products and training materials supporting youth leadership activities;
  • Draft procurement actions, consultant agreements and assist with staff recruitment and selection;
  • Develop expertise with donor compliance and IREX/DC office policies, procedures, support staff, and resources; assist field office teams to access these resources;
  • Support senior staff and development officers in researching and developing proposals and other tasks as deemed necessary for new business development;
  • Potential for international travel;
  • Represent IREX and Youth Practice interests both within and outside of IREX;
  • Other administrative and programmatic duties, as needed.




  • At least 2 years of experience providing support to international development projects, with a focus on supporting education and youth leadership development projects;
  • Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred;
  • Experience with USG-funded grants and contracts, preferred;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • Experience and proficiency with communications and managing social media platforms;
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with demonstrated success in a multinational and intercultural team environment;
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and database management
  • Experience with analytics tools and experience or capacity to develop data visualization skills
  • Detail-oriented with ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced working environment;
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, including with team members in multiple time zones;
  • Excellent ability to remain flexible while adhering to strict deadlines;
  • Study, work, or living abroad in Latin America and/or Francophone Africa preferred;
  • Fluency in English and advanced Spanish language skills are required, French language skills preferred;
