The Global Director of Quality will be a valuable member of the Engineering/R&D leadership team and have responsibility for global development and oversight of Quality Assurance / Quality Control programs for all NPD, and China contract manufacturing supplier’s quality programs. In addition, this position will have responsibility for all Product / Process related Corrective / Preventive Actions, Continuous Improvement activities related to overall hardware/software product quality. This highly visible, hands-on role will work closely with the Operations, Contract Manufacturing Team, Global Suppliers, Software Development, Customer Service, Sales, Marketing, Category Management and New Product Development Teams. This role will primarily focus on the establishment of the internal structure to drive improved quality throughout the hardware/software product development cycle as well as proper documentation processes, auditing procedures and supplier quality engineering procedures.
 

DUTIES:

 

  • Manage a team of approximately 10 Software Quality and Design Quality personnel.
  • Drive quality into design through requirements and architecture development to assure that software, firmware, and hardware platforms are based on firm architecture designed to meet the voice of customer requirements
  • Drive software quality while working with the Product Owner to assure Software Requirements are clear, concise, and testable
  • Implement software test protocols for more efficient and comprehensive software testing of new designs as well as regression testing of design changes
  • Drive initiatives to measure effectiveness of software and hardware development and drive preventative and corrective actions earlier in the development process
  • Reduce development cost and timelines through structured development and quality practices (requirements generation, system design, and test methods which trace directly to voice of customer requirements)
  • Drive continual improvement of the Quality Management System
  • Corrective and Preventative Action ownership during the development process and for any products released to production with quality faults
  • Develop and drive metrics which are aimed at correcting faults in design early in the process and reducing the number of faults released to system level testing and to the customer
  • Interact effectively with customers, suppliers, and internal resources
  • Autonomously lead the quality team to achieve business objectives
  • Perform effective risk management throughout development through structured means, for example DFMEA and PFMEA
  • Ability to effectively lead problem solving analysis using standard tools and methodology such as Design of Experiments
  • Executing a “cradle to grave” sustaining quality strategy for new & legacy InVue Security products
  • Work with Contract Manufacturers to ensure performance targets for Quality are met or exceeded including first pass yield metrics, PPAPs, and the implementation of Statistical Process Control for high running product lines
  • Assure design projects are built on a firm foundation of Voice of Customer driven design requirements
  • Drives key quality requirements (e.g., Design for Test, Design for Reliability, Design for Manufacture)
  • Assists in the planning and execution of verification and validation testing to ensure adequate test coverage for new products and sustaining design changes
  • Responsible for managing all tool and process validations- reviews and approves all validation documentation
  • Participates in site visits with customers and customer feedback workshops
  • Identifies and implements process improvement initiatives by establishing meaningful metrics in hardware and software development and driving improvements through metrics-based management (bugs returned, feature and sprint velocity, change orders to Product Requirements document, number of system test failures, warranty costs, first pass manufacturing yield)

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering required, Electrical, Mechanical, or Software preferred
  • A minimum of 5+ years related work experience leading a multi-disciplinary quality team (Required)
  • Experience leading a quality organization which produced IoT products strongly preferred
  • Experience with the Agile Software Development Process
  • Six Sigma Green/Black Belt (Preferred)
  • Experience working through all aspects of design/development including (Required):

-          Product Design and Development Verification

-          Process Design and Development Verification

-          Product and Process Validation and Production Feedback

-          Launch Assessment and Corrective Action

  • Experience with test method development & validation (e.g., measurement/test system development, gage R&R, etc.)
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and remote teams
  • Extensive experience with quality tools and methods required (e.g., DFSS, root cause analysis, FMEAs, etc.)
  • Excellent analytical decision making and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work and perform in cross-functional team environments inclusive of firmware engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and software engineering
  • Knowledge of EE hardware & firmware & software development & testing
  • IoT system development knowledge strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of Mechanical design, GD&T, injection molding, and metal forming
  • Proven problem-solving skills, experienced in reliability methods, statistical process control, data mining, and quality measurement methodologies
  • Experienced in Customer interaction/communications
  • Knowledge of field management, returns, and warranty processes
  • Led sustaining quality initiatives in previous roles & strong record of accomplishment of delivering results
  • International Travel, Supplier and Customer visits, 10% of the time
