To provide detailed accounting services, effectively and responsively supporting the organization’s mission as directed by Accounting management. Support revenue accounting in accordance with not-for-profit accounting principles, organizational policies, and control environment. It requires the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group of people across the organization and to juggle competing priorities. Support the organization in change management through training. Develop and refine business processes related to systems integration as they pertain to sustainable projects, headquarters, and country office operations.

Responsibilities & Deliverables:
Financial Reconciliation (40%)

  • Complete transactions before the published month-end close date.
  • Reconciles daily bank activity including cash, checks, credit card and electronic fund transfers.
  • Prepare daily reconciliation and processing of automatic credit hold or wire transfer payments.
  • Create and post accounts receivable invoices.
  • Assist with identification, research, and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Monitor expenses related to
  • revenue generation; petty cash, returned checks, credit card processing fees, etc.
  • Provide with development of desktop procedures related to contribution processing in support of global accounting policies.
Perform periodic account analysis of general ledger accounts and preparation of related schedules including system-generated bank reconciliation reports (40%)
  • All transactions for general ledger accounts by scheduled deadline.
  • Subsidiary revenue accounting processes are maintained.
  • Ensure monthly closing, including preparation and input of journal entries and intercompany account reconciliations.
  • Recommend, design and implement system process improvements, including Blackbaud/BBEC and Agresso, as well as any necessary department controls.
  • Financial transactions with BBEC transactions and analyzed and reported.
  • Assist with annual audit by independent auditors.
  • Audit and report on issues concerning regional bank accounts.
Maintain Accounts Receivable subsidiary ledger. (10%)
  • Assist with development of Accounts Receivable procedures.
  • Complete invoice requests within 3 days of receipt.
  • Apply payments received to receivable accounts and complete associated financial transactions accurately within 3 days of receipt.
Perform other job-related tasks as requested (10%)

Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree plus two (2) years of accounting related experience.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Strong experience in financial reconciliation
  • Experience in organization with diverse complex revenue sources.
  • Experience in not-for-profit accounting and accounting for donor-restricted funding and United States government grants or contracts.
  • Experience with data entry and database software.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, and other Office applications.
  • Spanish and French language skills are a plus.
Most Critical Proficiencies:
  • Strong reconciliation skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping concepts.
  • Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Knowledge of business practices, procedures and processes.
  • Critical thinking; personal motivation; initiative; ability to work independently.
  • Practical knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (including non-profit accounting), management principles and practices, and administrative systems and internal controls.
  • Skill at producing accurate and detailed information within a variety of computerized accounting systems, as well as PC-based spreadsheet and database software (Microsoft Office preferred).
  • Ability to maintain accounting systems for not-for-profit entities and to determine proper accounting treatment of transactions.
  • Strong Agresso ERP knowledge, including understanding of attributes and relations. Knowledge of other financial systems is helpful.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including strong attention to detail and time management.
  • Strong English language skills – oral and written. Spanish language a plus.
  • Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, database, and electronic mail software (Microsoft preferred).
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Internet Explorer.
