Main Function of the Coffee and Cocoa Market Systems Manager

The Coffee and Cocoa Market Systems Manager (SMCC) will have the function of leading the team in the projects that Heifer Mexico executes in relation to the interventions within the coffee and cocoa market system. In his/her role as project implementer, he/she will have to delegate objectives to his/her work team, allocate and control the budget, establish control mechanisms and facilitate a practical, flexible and effective project implementation within the parameters set by Heifer and the funders. Management will establish mechanisms to comply with applicable laws, Heifer policies and procedures. Management has the function of integrating, cohesion and team building and to promote the generation of bonds of trust, pride and fellowship.

 

Main responsibilities and functions

  • Management of projects related to the coffee and cocoa market system.
  • Design of new projects.
  • Manage the talent of the operational team.
  • Administrative tasks such as reporting, account submission, expense reporting, purchasing processes, etc.
  • Public relations and communication as Heifer representative and contribution to positioning.
  • Lidership Skills like supervision, performance evaluation, development of the team in charge.
  • The SMCC Management will be responsible for incorporating in the medium term (5 years) 45,000 small-scale coffee and cocoa producers in Mexico, in order to increase their income and put them on the path to achieving a decent income.
  • The above using various strategies that include the sustainable increase of productivity and quality, value addition, commercial linkages, certifications. It will also develop and implement sustainable business models and strategies to address the root causes of SMCC.
  • The Management's priority will be to focus on the implementation of actions to increase access to fair financing for producers and producers.
  • Management will carry out actions to facilitate participatory processes with small-scale producers to develop and implement strategies for supply chain development and associativity.
  • Management will identify opportunities to generate additional income for producers, such as productive diversification, access to payment for environmental services and carbon credit markets. It will also design and execute strategies focused on incorporating women and youth into the SMCC.
  • Management will promote the adoption of agroforestry practices for coffee and cocoa production and will strengthen the entrepreneurial capacities of the cooperatives.

Minimum requirements:

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Agricultural Economics or Agribusiness or similar disciplines. Minimum of 5 years of experience in managing rural development projects in multiple territories and in the coffee and cocoa market system.

 

Bilingual English / Spanish - reading, writing and oral communication (intermediate business English).

 Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree and/or complementary training in rural development, business development, landscape management. Experience with international NGOs or similar institutions and/or experience with the private sector in SMCC.

 

Most crucial competencies:

- Market knowledge and field work experience from a managerial position.

- Working knowledge of business model development and implementation.

- Entrepreneurial skills (understanding of financial variables, investment returns, market segmentation, value addition, marketing).

- Understanding of financial instruments and access to financing.

- Understanding of strategies for product positioning in the market and market development.

- Mastery of production processes, quality, certifications, sales and the marketing of SMCC....

Desired:

Knowledge of gender issues (awareness and experience with women's empowerment processes), resilience, climate change mitigation and adaptation;

 

MS-Office: Word, Excel, PPT, and Microsoft Project, Zoom.
