About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Custodian I to join our Facilities team. This role plays a key part in maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment for our employees and visitors. The Custodian I is responsible for daily cleaning tasks, basic facility upkeep, and supporting the overall maintenance of our workplace.

This position reports directly to the Custodial Supervisor/Team Lead.


Key Responsibilities

General Facility Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance tasks including minor electrical, carpentry, painting, and equipment repairs.
  • Conduct regular facility inspections to identify necessary maintenance and report concerns promptly.
  • Maintain equipment required to complete daily work.

Custodial Duties

  • Remove trash and waste streams, ensuring proper disposal.
  • Clean floors, walls, hallways, restrooms, break rooms, cafeterias, common areas, and indoor/outdoor spaces.
  • Clean and sanitize touch surfaces and glass areas.
  • Operate custodial equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor buffers, and heavy machinery as required.
  • Follow all safety protocols and report safety concerns immediately.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Operational Support

  • Assist in maintaining facility functionality by responding to alarms and urgent situations.
  • Support facility projects through coordination with vendors and contractors.
  • Maintain accurate records and assist in ordering materials.
  • Comply with company quality procedures and standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Experience: No prior experience required.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
    • Reliable transportation.
    • Ability to operate custodial equipment and heavy machinery.
    • Ability to stand for long periods and move/lift up to 40 lbs.
    • Ability to climb stairs, ladders, and ramps.
    • Ability to correctly wear PPE for most of the day.
    • Basic computer skills for email and simple data entry.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior custodial experience.
  • Knowledge of cleaning products, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and proper cleaning methods.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills with diverse groups.

The pay for this role is between $17.60 an hour This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux’s bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
