Job Posting: Associate Staff Scientist 

Department: R&D Microbiology

Position Summary

Contributes, with technical and scientific expertise to the design and development of high-quality products on time, within budget, and with a high degree of customer satisfaction. Acts as a team leader for new product development or current product improvement projects.

Primary Duties

  1. Collaborate closely with the software, hardware development and system engineering teams.

  2. Contribute to development of tools for analyzing large performance data sets generated from (AST/ID/molecular) experiments.

  3. Support biological testing needed for assay development and system verification activities.

  4. Troubleshoot technical issues that may arise in the (AST/ID/Molecular Biology) tests/system, record and report these issues cross-functionally, and provide suggestions and resolutions for improvement.

  5. Perform experiments in the lab according to good lab practice.

  6. Collaborate with other scientists and managers to optimize testing protocols and workflows within the lab.

  7. Maintain accurate records of experiments and results, write work instructions (WIs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), protocols, reports, process flows etc...

  8. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., FDA, ISO) and comply with biohazard safety standards.

  9. Participate in product risk assessment, technical design reviews and critically evaluate design and implementation plans.

  10. Summarize findings and present results to cross-functional teams.

  11. Mentor and train new and existing team members and be a technical advisor for data analysis problems.

  12. Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.

  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required 

    • Specific Field: Life Sciences, Biomedical, Microbiology, related science field
  • 5 years of professional experience with data visualization/analysis software such as Tableau, JMP or RStudio and regulatory and the compliance requirements for IVD products (e.g., QSR, ISO, GLP).

  • Preferred: Experience in product development in regulated environment; proficient in good laboratory safety, aseptic technique, and basic Microbiology/Molecular technique

  • 2 years of proficiency with using Python, R, or similar for data analysis
  • Advanced use and understanding of Excel

The estimated salary range for this role is between $92,000-$135,000. This role is eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and individual performance per bioMerieux’s bonus program. This range may differ from ranges offered for similar positions elsewhere in the country given differences in cost of living. Actual compensation within this range is determined based on the successful candidate’s experience and will be presented in writing at the time of the offer.
