Position Summary
As a member of a team responsible for creating software for the development of innovative in vitro diagnostic solutions, the Software Engineering Manager leads a multidisciplinary team of software engineers and test/verification engineers responsible for developing software for instrument control software, health data, and companion software solutions used in innovative in vitro diagnostic (IVD) systems. This role drives engineering excellence ensures adherence to quality and regulatory standards, and fosters a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and technical innovation. The manager oversees day-to-day operations, project execution, personnel management, cross-functional communication, and long-term capability development across development and test teams.
Primary Duties
Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers and test engineers, fostering a high-performance and inclusive culture.
Conduct performance evaluations, provide actionable feedback, and support individualized career growth plans.
Manage software development lifecycle from requirements through deployment.
Oversee development of instrument control software, distributed event-driven systems using modern cloud native architectures.
Guide teams in implementing CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and automated deployments.
Lead the test engineering function, including verification/validation activities, test planning, test case design, and automated test frameworks.
Ensure delivery of high quality, compliant software that adheres to regulatory standards (e.g., ISO 13485, 21 CFR 820.11, HIPAA, GDPR, QpR).
Drive adoption of automated quality gates, code reviews, and continuous improvement practices.
Manage project priorities, resource allocation, and timelines to support timely delivery.
Monitor project progress, resolve issues, and perform corrective actions as needed.
Translate business and technical requirements into actionable engineering plans.
Serve as primary communication liaison between internal stakeholders and external partners.
Influence effective communication between software, test, and hardware teams.
Promote adoption of new technologies, frameworks, testing tools, and development best practices.
Lead efforts in modernizing legacy systems and transitioning to cloud-native architectures.
Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Biology, Microbiology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Engineering, or a related technical or scientific field
8 years of professional related experience including 3 years of specific Professional Team Management experience.
Preferred Experience:
Experience in professional software development, including full-stack development (e.g., Java), modern web frameworks.
Experience designing software architecture, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
Experience supporting or overseeing test engineering, automated tests, V&V processes, and quality systems.
Understanding of compliance, privacy, and information security standards (e.g., risk management, network segmentation).
Experience designing, deploying, and operating production containerized workloads on one or more major cloud platforms, using cloud-native architectural principles (e.g., Kubernetes-based platforms on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
