Principal Engineer

EngineeringHybrid Remote, Fremont, California

Description

Job Description Overview:

Our team specializes in innovative electromagnetic-related signal integrity (SI) and power integrity (PI) system design. As we continue to provide extensive multi-physics SI/PI support to project teams, we are seeking experienced R&D professionals to join us and enhance the system performance of all ASUS product lines.

The candidate will be responsible for SI/PI simulations on ASUS product lines (Laptops, Desktops, Servers, Motherboards, Graphics Cards, Phones, IoT Devices, etc.). From the early design stage to mass production, the candidate will be expected to function both independently and collaborate across different functional teams (EE, Layout, etc.) to analyze simulation results and deliver recommendations and/or solutions to projects on schedule. The candidate is also responsible for researching advanced electromagnetic and multi-physics technologies to help ASUS deliver differentiated products to the market.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) simulations for ASUS product lines, including laptops, desktops, servers, motherboards, graphics cards, phones, and IoT devices.
  • Analyze SI and PI simulation outcomes, providing precise design recommendations to optimize system performance.
  • Collaborate with project teams to resolve board stackup, component placement, and routing challenges from initial design stages to mass production.
  • Enhance system architecture and implement design improvements across product lines to boost stability, performance, and reduce costs.
  • Perform end-to-end channel SI correlation, between simulation and lab measurements, for timing and eye-opening in high-speed serial links and memory interfaces.
  • Perform whole Power Delivery Network (PDN) PI correlation, between simulations and lab measurements of impedance in frequency domain, current, and voltage in time domain.
  • Research on advanced electromagnetic technologies and innovative system electrical architectures, standardize SI and PI design and analysis workflows with automation.
  • Collaborate with industry partners, component vendors, and academic institutions to explore and integrate cutting-edge multi-physics technologies.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Deep understanding and hands-on experience in electromagnetic and transmission line theory.
  • Proficient with electromagnetic simulation EDA tools such as Ansys HFSS, SIwave, Sigrity PowerSI, PowerDC, CST, and ADS.
  • Extensive experience in SI/PI simulations for PCIe Gen4/5, multi-gigabit serial buses up to 112Gbps, DDR4/5, LPDDR4/5, and similar technologies.
  • Expertise in Power Delivery Network (PDN) design optimization, review, and sign-off, with strong knowledge of voltage regulator modules (VRM) technologies and decoupling strategies.
  • Skilled in electrical and design validation/compliance testing using high-speed oscilloscopes, TDR, VNA, probe stations, and other instruments.
  • Confident in thriving within a fast-paced, dynamic, and results-oriented corporate environment that demands flexibility.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and equally effective working independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Quick to learn and adapt to new tools and techniques

Required Qualifications:

Years of Education

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, a related field, or above.

Work Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in SI or PI Simulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in Electrical/Computer Engineering specializing in areas related to SI or PI.
  • Bi-lingual in Mandarin

Working Conditions:

  • Office Only: Typically works in an office environment.
  • Requires sitting, operating a computer keyboard, telephone and other office equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional travel may be required [15% of travel, domestic in the US and international (TWN)]
