SUMMARY

The Paralegal provides advanced legal, regulatory, and administrative support to attorneys within a US-based healthcare organization, with a focus on behavioral health services. This role plays a critical part in supporting contract management, litigation processes, regulatory compliance, and risk mitigation while ensuring adherence to applicable federal and state laws, including healthcare and data privacy regulations.

 

The position requires strong analytical capability, attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment while collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders and external counsel.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

 

Legal Documentation & Contract Management

  • Draft, review, and manage a wide range of legal documents including contracts, business associate agreements, provider agreements, real estate documents, corporate formation documents, policies, and memoranda
  • Manage the full contract lifecycle, including intake, drafting, redlining, execution tracking, and renewal/termination monitoring
  • Maintain organized and compliant legal documentation in accordance with document retention policies

 

Litigation & Investigations Support

  • Support litigation activities, including e-discovery, document review, production, and coordination with outside counsel
  • Assist in managing subpoena requests, including records and employee testimony
  • Support internal investigations and regulatory inquiries
  • Assist in trial preparation and case file organization

 

Legal Hold & Compliance Processes

  • Manage legal hold processes, including drafting notices, tracking custodians, monitoring compliance, and documenting activities
  • Conduct audits related to legal holds and ensure accurate release procedures
  • Support responses to audits, licensing boards, payer investigations, and regulatory agencies

 

Regulatory & Healthcare Compliance

  • Assist in ensuring compliance with federal and state healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, HITECH, Medicare/Medicaid, and applicable licensing requirements
  • Support compliance initiatives related to behavioral health services and accreditation standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CARF)
  • Assist with policy development and implementation aligned with regulatory requirements

 

Risk Management & Advisory Support

  • Identify potential legal and regulatory risks and escalate to attorneys as appropriate
  • Support incident reporting, investigation follow-ups, and risk mitigation efforts
  • Provide clear and organized summaries of legal risks, findings, and recommendations

Legal Research & Analysis

  • Conduct legal research using established tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis)
  • Analyze legal information and prepare summaries, memoranda, and position statements
  • Support attorneys in developing legal strategies and responses

 

Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner with internal departments including operations, compliance, HR, and finance to support legal and regulatory needs
  • Liaise with external counsel, vendors, and third parties under attorney supervision
  • Collaborate effectively with US-based teams across time zones

 

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Manage calendars, deadlines, and legal filings
  • Ensure timely submission of documents to courts and regulatory bodies
  • Prepare reports, presentations, and legal trackers as needed

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Associate’s Degree in Legal Studies or equivalent required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Paralegal Certification required
  • Minimum 4+ years of paralegal experience; 7+ years preferred
  • Experience in healthcare or behavioral health industry strongly preferred

 

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience with legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis)
  • Familiarity with document management and contract management systems is preferred
