Senior Buyer, Direct Material

Position Overview

This position is responsible for leading the strategic and tactical procurement and reliable supply of direct material in support of the Greenville, NC, facilities.  

Key Responsibility Areas

  • Operational Efficiencies: Develop and drive tactical procurement efficiency improvements; actively partner with key internal stakeholders to develop and action cost reduction, item rationalization, and inventory control improvement initiatives
  • Quality Management and Control: Lead Quarterly Business Reviews with key suppliers to measure and improve quality and delivery performance, communicate business needs, and enhance business relationships
  • Strategic Procurement: Lead the development and execution of short and long-term direct sourcing strategies for the reliable supply of direct material; develop and build relationships with key suppliers to ensure supply and mitigate risk; negotiate supply agreements for key direct material to reduce total cost and improve delivery and quality

Specific Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Actively develop and manage strategic supplier relationships for all direct goods and services
  • Lead the development and execution of short and long-term direct sourcing strategies
  • Execute Supply Agreements with key direct suppliers
  • Lead Quarterly Business Reviews with key suppliers to assess performance and communicate business needs
  • Develop and maintain direct supplier risk assessment and mitigation strategies
  • Execute daily tactical procurement of all direct goods
  • Resolve daily tactical issues with suppliers, internal customers, and Finance
  • Determine process/system improvements to the tactical procurement process
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to determine current and future supply requirements
  • Partner with internal customers to maintain inventory at appropriate levels
  • Research and recommend vendor managed inventory agreements where beneficial

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Business, Science, Engineering or related field
  • At least 3 - 5 years of Procurement/Supply Chain experience, preferably within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Effective communication skills as apparent in the ability to concisely convey an idea, suggestion or question (technical or logistical) to an individual, team, or management; patience; transparency; respectful cooperation with individuals at all levels and different disciplines
  • Attentive to detail, self-motivated, self-disciplined, able to act decisively with purposeful pursuit of goals or objectives, thinks strategically in terms of solutions, and generates vision

Physical Requirements

In this position, there will be some exposure to moving equipment and an occasional need for travel (up to 30%).
