Job Title: Senior Business Systems Analyst 
Department: Information Technology 
Reports to:  Senior Director, Infrastructure and Cyber Security 
Status: Exempt
 
Primary Objective: Responsible for ensuring the design of cost-effective, flexible, and reliable systems to support business needs, and for managing the seamless flow of information through the organization. This role will be frequently assigned to cross-functional and cross-departmental projects with highly complex, cross-systems impact, while acting as a liaison between business stakeholders and the technical delivery teams.
 
Essential Functions:  
 
Systems Planning and Development:
  • Involved in all phases of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC), vendor management and escalation support once systems are in production. 
  • Continuously evaluate existing and potential technology alongside business processes and operating procedures to determine and recommend improvements in current standards. 
  • Coordinate and perform the implementation of system changes. 
  • Establish agreements and manage relationships with external third-party providers and internal business partners. 
  • Manage business systems projects and provide support for related projects.  Specify inputs and format outputs to meet business needs. 
  • Develop specifications, diagrams and flowcharts as needed. 
  • Oversee implementation and coordinate the system/data testing and validation pre-and-post go-live. 
  • Analyze and communicate stakeholder needs by translating business requirements into software requirements. 
  • Provide training and escalation support to the systems support team and support on a scheduled rotation. 
 Systems Operations:
  • Review, analyze, and coordinate modification of programming systems including encoding, testing, debugging, and installing to support system applications.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot and implement problem isolation/resolution for business systems and applications.
  • Provide root cause analysis and proactive activities to detect and prevent future problems/incidents.
  • Review information and trends to ensure that business systems meet agreed service levels.
  • Configure, patch, and maintain applications.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security with regard to the information being processed, stored, or accessed by the network. 
Analysis, Reporting, & Business Intelligence:
  • Assist executives and other business users with reporting analytics and exception reporting metrics using Power BI, SSRS, SSMS, Advanced Excel (including PowerPivot, nested formulas, external data sources), Crystal, Power BI, etc. 
  • Define, publish, and maintain data definitions and standards. 
  • Gather requirements for new reports, create reports, and validate data integrity. 
  • Will perform other duties as assigned. 
 
Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Management required. Equivalent, relevant work or playing experience may be considered in lieu of formal education requirements if approved by management.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience as an analyst in information technology or related area required.
  • Certification in Business Analysis or Project Management preferred
  • Knowledge/experience with ERP’s (Dynamics AX, SAP, Workday, Oracle etc.) and Reporting tools (Power BI/Tableau) and other business applications.
  • Must possess expertise in MS Office and Business Process Analysis/Management tools.
  • Previous experience learning and owning new applications/business systems.
  • Project or program management experience preferred.
 
Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):   
  • Possess a basic understanding of the Systems Development Lifecycle (SDLC) in waterfall and agile methodologies, as well as a basic understanding of risk management related to systems development 
  • Excellent analytical ability, natural curiosity, and problem-solving aptitude.
  • Experience learning and owning new applications/business systems.
  • Experience with Workday HCM and Payroll as well as UKG Ready, preferred.
  • Experience supporting the Payroll and Timekeeping functions in a midsize organization.
