Job Title:Maintenance Plumber

Department:Engineering & Maintenance

Reports To:Chief Engineer

Status:Full-Time, Non-exempt

 

Primary Objective:  Perform journey-level plumbing work in the maintenance, repair and construction of a wide variety of complex and sophisticated plumbing systems.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Inspect, diagnose malfunctions; repair, maintain, test and inspect backflow devices, heating, cooling, and other process piping systems; clear plugged waste lines.
  • Remove and replace or install all types of plumbing fixtures, such as water closets, sinks, drinking fountains, showers, kitchen, laboratory, and other equipment.
  • Maintain and repair piping on tanks, and pressure vessels for water, air, and draining systems; install, service, repair and valves, dishwashers, stills, heat exchangers and coils.
  • Construct various types of pipe joints for high or low-pressure systems, including threading, brazing, soldering, or lead-wiping of joints.
  • Cut, fit, fabricate, and assemble a wide variety of articles, materials, and devices, including steel, copper, brass, glass, plastic, cast iron, corrosion-resistant pipe.
  • Read and interpret plans, blueprints, and sketches; construct, lay out or plan piping assemblies with respect to walls, structures, and other obstructions, allowing for expansion and contraction and alignment in accordance with pipefitting practice. Work with Chief Engineer to discuss any proposed project changes before construction.
  • Develop cost estimates for installation and repairs as directed
  • Keep supervisors informed of project status/work progress, needed materials and equipment.
  • Safely operate machinery such as fork-lifts, scissor-lifts, and high rangers. Load and unload materials and supplies.
  • Safely operate vehicles such as vans and trucks to transport tools, equipment and personnel to various team stores.
  • Instruct semi-skilled workers as directed
  • Know and comply with occupational health and safety regulations specific to the work and conduct on the job, including Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) instructions, Hazard Review Checklists (HRCs) and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Actively participate in meetings and training as scheduled.
  • Provide excellent customer service through effective, courteous and professional interactions with clients, colleagues and Mariner guests.

 

Education and Experience:

  • Full journey status as a plumber/pipefitter/steamfitter and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a commercial environment.  Vocational training may be substituted for work experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • Washington State Department of Health Backflow Assembly Tester Certification or obtain certification within 120 days of employment required.
  • Washington State Department of Labor & Industries Journey-level Plumber Certification preferred.
  • Pipe Welding Certification and/or demonstrated experience welding pipes preferred.
  • Possession of a valid Washington State Driver’s License or a license recognized as valid by the State of Washington required.
     

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA’s):

  • Knowledge and practical experience with WISHA (Washington Industrial Safety & Health Act) and OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act) regulations.
  • Proficient in basic computer functions including Microsoft Office software and internal work order systems
  • Knowledge of the operations of large multi-purpose sports facility or large public building preferred
  • Competent in required job skills and knowledge. Completes work assignments thoroughly and completely in an accurate, and prompt. Identifies and corrects errors. Is careful, alert and accurate, paying attention to details of the job.

Physical Activities and Working Conditions Necessary to Perform Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift 50lbs. and be able to remain on feet for extended amount of time
  • Ability to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and work at heights above 30 feet with proper PPE
  • Will perform tasks requiring bending, stopping, kneeling, and walking significant distances
  • Will be required to access confined spaces and heights using approved safety precautions.
  • Support on-demand and off-shift emergency calls

The anticipated range of base compensation for this role is $35-$42.00 per hour.
