About You and this Role
Liferay seeks to expand its ability to empower, inspire, and influence technical practitioners and developers by producing exceptionally engaging and accessible learning content, courses, documentation, and tutorials. To support this effort, Liferay seeks motivated, independent, and servant-hearted Technical Writers to participate in organizing, writing, and revising all of the aforementioned materials.
Technical Writers work directly with their manager and technical staff to produce learning content for publication, assess and revise existing content, and are expected to participate in tactical decision-making. This role also collaborates with other Technical Writers and with relevant Enablement and Product Team members. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, a clear communicator, detail-oriented, flexible, and thrives in a collaborative environment.
Key Objectives include but not limited to,
- Collaborate with Enablement leads to plan, create, and maintain product enablement courses, technical documentation and other learning content for Liferay products.
- Maintain up-to-date documentation by collaborating with Development Leads to capture new features, enhancements, and changes as they are implemented.
- Create engaging developer tutorials that showcase the power and value of Liferay development.
- Contribute to developing and presenting learning content in relevant formats: written, webinars, classroom, video narration, and more.
- Revise existing documentation and learning content to meet standards for brevity, clarity, and overall cohesion.
- Actively engage with the Liferay community to understand and address learning needs.
Required Qualifications
- Strong verbal and written command of the English language, with an emphasis on brevity, clarity, and cohesion
- Ability to read and understand source code written in Java and/or JavaScript
- Working knowledge of Markdown, Git, and GitHub
- Experience in technical writing, product documentation, or online publishing
- Experience developing educational content, such as courses, webinars, and tutorials
- Experience working in collaborative cross-functional environments that include technical and business facing team members
- Comfortable working with more than 1 parallel assignments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Java or JavaScript development
- Experience working in a UNIX environment
- Experience creating educational media (video, audio, graphic design)
