About You and this Role
As a Senior Data Engineer at Liferay you will be joining a team in charge of the cloud data platform that enables others to succeed in data analysis and advanced analytics. You will champion the long-term strategy and roadmap for the data platform to meet the growing demand for innovative data solutions across the company. This unique opportunity combines strong technical expertise with excellent communication skills and a strategic product delivery mindset. Key Objectives
- Design, build, and maintain critical data systems that help drive analytics across the organization.
- Collaborate with cross-functional project stakeholders to gather business requirements, design a technical solution, define deliverables, and estimate project timelines.
- Champion the vision, roadmap, and long-term strategy of the data platform in collaboration with leadership to support advanced data initiatives.
- Prioritize projects balancing technical feasibility with the needs of multiple stakeholders.
- Design, build, and maintain data pipelines to enable new methods of advanced analytics.
- Help grow and mentor junior team members in data engineering and security best practices.
- Help champion a data driven culture within the Liferay organization.
Required Qualifications
- Relevant experience with a BS/BA in Computer Science/Information Systems, or equivalent technical background.
- Excellent English communication to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and succinctly to nontechnical stakeholders.
- Proficient in Python, Java or similar languages.
- Proficient in SQL for Google BigQuery, MySQL or similar database.
- Proficient with cloud-based data platform development.
- Ability to develop and maintain a large set of ETL/ELT data pipelines with minimal supervision.
- Self-starter, quick learner, self-motivated, and proactive in completing responsibilities.
- Expert problem-solving skills coupled with very strong motivation to identify and resolve customer issues.
- Good team player who enjoys sharing their knowledge with others and mentors junior team members.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Apache Airflow, Spark, Iceberg, Google BigQuery, and Google Cloud Platform
- Experience with Git or similar VCS.
- Experience working within the Scrum framework.
- Experience with quality assurance and data quality automation.
- Experience with data governance.
- Familiar with Tableau or similar Business Intelligence tools.
