Description
We are looking for an experienced sports modeling lead to join our dynamic and growing team at LeoVegas. The ideal candidate will bring a creative mindset and enthusiasm for sports data. You will get the opportunity to design and develop odds modeling, pricing, risk, and other models to support the LeoVegas sportsbook team.
You will be one of the founding members of a newly formed LeoSportsbook data science team. This is an exciting role where we will rely on your leadership, vision, and experience in developing this functional area. The role will work closely with data scientists, engineers, and analysts, but you will also work regularly with the trading/bookmaking, risk, and other sportsbook operational teams.
YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Serving as the in-house statistical expert for the sportsbook domain. Ensure all of our models are theoretically sound.
- Providing technical leadership and mentorship to other data science team members
- Interface with sportsbook stakeholders to determine requirements for new models and model improvements
- Ideating and designing data science and machine learning solutions that maximize accuracy, scalability, and efficiency. Rapidly test and iterate on these ideas
- Collaborate with technical and non-technical teams upstream and downstream to fully implement models and deploy them for production operational use
- Perform advanced data analysis to identify patterns in data, modeling/automation opportunities, and quantify impact of developed solutions
- Staying up to date with the latest developments in sports data science and the industry, and incorporating accordingly into data products
OUR SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE THE FOLLOWING:
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- Undergraduate degree in statistics or mathematics
- Strong theoretical knowledge of statistics and machine learning. The ability to converse about these topics with both PhDs and non-technical business people.
- Strong domain knowledge of sports betting concepts, terms, metrics, and the general industry. Either through professional experience or personal projects
- Intellectual creativity and a desire to challenge the status quo
- Strong stakeholder communication and complex project management skills
- Experience with (ideally multiple) scripting/programming languages and common data science packages
- Experience with SQL and databases
- Experience with Git
NICE TO HAVES
- Graduate degree in statistics or mathematics
- Professional experience in the gambling or sports industry
- understanding of a major cloud (GCP, AWS, Azure) and the data/ML services within that cloud. bonus points for GCP and Vertex AI specifically
- understanding of the full-stack data science development process, including deployment (CI/CD), and MLOps
- code and architecture optimization skills
- experience with integrating data science projects into large engineering systems
- experience leading project teams and/or having direct reports
