Position Summary: 

The Director of Audit Operations will serve as a key liaison between the Audit Department and firm operations. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, organizational and project management skills, and have a passion for optimizing operations within the largest department of a quickly growing accounting firm. As the primary connector between the Audit Department and firm operations, your responsibilities outlined below will intersect closely with the leaders of our firm’s core operations, including but not limited to Finance, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Marketing. 


Human Resources 

  • Provide insights and recommendations related to talent management and performance
  • Set goals for chargeable hours and manage staff performance against objectives
  • Collaborate with HR and Audit Department leadership to address employee relations issues as they arise
  • Ensure strong performance of non-billable resources and provide regular feedback to employees on their performance


  • Facilitate communication between Audit Department partners and recruiting for hiring needs
  • Develop future hiring plans based on current work, pipeline, and staff levels
  • Manage and motivate the Audit Department’s operational staff, which includes staff who perform scheduling, statistical typing and several other operational functions.

Learning and Development 

  • Collaborate with L&D Director to create training plans for the workgroup

Culture and Engagement 

  • Manage cultural elements within the group, including events, parties, and networking
  • Oversee workgroup resources to ensure efficient workflow and timely delivery of work

Marketing and Growth 

  • Participate in marketing study groups as needed
  • Collaborate with the Chief Growth Officer on growth and client pruning strategies
  • Monitor potential client wins and losses to be used in determining future staffing needs


  • Work closely with the CFO and finance team on managing workgroup spend and performance against goals
  • Address other financial matters as needed

Information Technology 

  • Work with the CIO and IT team on new projects and initiatives related to technology
  • Manage the non-technical processes involved in IT projects 

Representation at Executive Level 

  • Prioritize projects through Operations Leadership to ensure necessary resources are available
  • Collaborate with all Operations Leaders using the project process and prioritization framework
  • Gain insights from different aspects of the business through interactions with other Operations Leaders
  • Attend leadership meetings to discuss performance management, compensation planning, and key firm initiatives


  • Prior public accounting experience, consulting background and accounting education is preferred.  
  • Strong interpersonal relationship building and coaching skills, with the ability to motivate and manage staff
  • Ability to work collaboratively with various departments and familiarity with the operational functions within a professional services firm
  • Strong project management skills a must 
  • Able to multi-task and quickly shift priorities depending on the needs of internal clients
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
