Position Summary:
Act as a liaison between partners, directors, staff and clients. Responsibilities include simultaneously managing multiple projects and client engagements while scheduling, staffing and coordinating engagement workflow. Develop and train staff. Demonstrate the ability to make decisions and build & enhance relationships with clients.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for managing all phases of audit engagements (from planning to timely wrap-up)
- Supervise staff on multiple engagements including providing timely performance feedback to the staff
- Review documentation, work papers, financial statements and client communication letters prepared by in-charge or staff accountants
- Complete initial review of tax returns, as required
- Become an “expert” in specific industries or services
- Consult with clients on benefit plan documentation, administrative and operational issues.
- Act as a consultant on all phases of benefit plan administration including plan logistics (vesting, distributions, etc.), IRS and/or DOL notices or examinations, plan terminations, plan mergers and acquisitions, etc.
- Maintain contact with clients throughout the year, and possess a thorough knowledge of the client and their industry to provide value-added recommendations
- Serve as a mentor & resource for audit staff
- Assist in firm administrative functions including billing and collections
- Recognize opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting
- Possession of active CPA license
- Minimum of five years of experience in public accounting, demonstrating a progression in complexity, scope and number of engagements managed
- Specific experience auditing qualified defined contribution and defined benefit plans including 401(k), 403(b), multi-employer, ESOP and health and welfare plans
- Familiarity with the various forms associated with employee benefit plans, including Form 5500
- Proven ability to consult with clients on benefit plan documentation, administrative and operational issues and/or DOL notices or examinations, plan terminations, plan mergers and acquisitions, etc.
- Ability to learn & expand knowledge of ERISA and the retirement plan industry
