Nolo/Internet Brands is looking for an experienced editorial leader who will focus on identifying, recruiting, developing, and retaining top legal writing and editing talent to expand our best-in-class content team. An eye for great writing, the ability to communicate effectively with legal professionals, and a flair for team building and editorial management are musts. In this role, you will lead efforts to find the best people, onboard them, train them to become top-notch legal writers/editors, oversee their professional growth, and work with the Managing Editor on editorial capacity planning and management.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Develop strategies to find legal writers and editors with expertise in specific areas of practice (e.g. family law, personal injury, etc.).
  • Cultivate relationships with potential contributors and build a premier legal content network.
  • Create and oversee a consistent process for hiring.
  • Utilize and report on data that captures the progress and efficacy of recruiting and retention strategies.
  • Working with current Editorial leadership, design training programs for contributors that uphold brand standards and teach team members how to connect better with our audience, explain complex legal concepts, integrate SEO, etc.
  • Work closely with the Managing Editor on editorial planning, tracking, and quality control.
  • Collaborate cross-team and serve as a critical partner in the development of editorial planning / editorial resourcing / team building strategies and content production.
  • Regularly assess the make up of teams to enhance performance and optimize growth opportunities.
  • Take the lead in team building, fostering productivity and professional growth among the editorial staff.
  • Manage different content projects that may arise.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience building and managing successful editorial teams.
  • Experience in the legal space. (Having a JD and your own network of contacts is a plus.)
  • Passion and enthusiasm for content creation, team building, and improving processes.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated excellence in organizational management with ability to coach all levels of staff, manage and develop high performance teams, and devise and implement programs.
  • The ability to excite and inspire people to take on new challenges, learn, and grow.
  • Proven ability to develop strong working relationships with contributors, organizations, and vendors.
  • Outgoing individual with keen interpersonal skills who can spot talent, communicate effectively with attorneys and legal professionals, and build a network of contributors.
  • Exceptional cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management skills and an ability to prioritize.
