Description

SCOPE 
Under the supervision of a sergeant, conduct continuous parking and traffic enforcement on campus. Responsibilities include enforcement of the parking and traffic regulations by ticketing and towing of violators when necessary, providing parking enforcement and traffic control for various campus functions, and, when necessary, directing visitors to the appropriate parking area and assisting in providing directions to their desired destination.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS  

  • Demonstrated ability to deal courteously while interfacing with the public under adversarial conditions.  
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict and de-escalate situations.  
  • Must meet customer service expectations.  
  • Must be able to work both independently and as a team member that promotes a positive and productive environment.        
  • Resolve vehicular obstructions in parking lot travel lanes and roadways.  
  • Identify unregistered vehicles.  Issue parking violations to all vehicles in violation of parking regulations. Take appropriate action on removal of vehicles—direct offenders to register vehicle.  
  • Issue tickets for parking violations and arrange to tow vehicles per protocols.  
  • Supervise and maintain a free flow of traffic in on campus and in congested locations.  Regulate traffic on campus roadways as directed.  
  • Assist police officers as needed in routine and emergency situations.  Direct and control traffic issues as needed and requested by officers.  
  • Must be able to use a portable radio, safely drive a vehicle, and write parking tickets clearly and legibly.  
  • Must be able to maneuver between tight spaces.  
  • Must be able to make observations and effectively communicate details of incidents both verbally and in writing.  
  • Must maintain a current driver’s license and good driving record.  
  • Demonstrated proficiency using a computer.  
  • Assist office staff in issuance of parking decals during peak periods including inputting data and collating mailings.  
  • Other duties as assigned.  
  • Comply with all Public Safety and Holy Cross policies.   
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk and listen. Employees are regularly exposed to outside weather conditions including snow storms, and extreme heat. 
 This is a Monday – Friday 7am-3pm position that generally follows the 32-week fall and spring academic calendar. The Parking Enforcement Officer is not scheduled on duty when classes are not in session unless necessary to support large events that implicate parking enforcement or for training purposes.
