Auto Mechanic II (Monday to Friday 6:30am to 3:00pm)
Description
- Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical, electrical systems on vehicles, including trucks, vans, and utility vehicles.
- Identifies drivability concerns, damages, or malfunctions; determine if additional safety or service work is required.
- Performs complex engine repairs and rebuilds to restore performance.
- Ensures fleet vehicles are maintained and in operational, safe, and reliable conditions.
- Conducts routine and scheduled preventive maintenance services including oil changes, fluid checks, filter and brake replacement, tire services, and tune-ups.
- Troubleshoots and repairs auxiliary equipment such as generators, small engines, and boat motors.
- Installs and repairs accessories such as radios, heaters, mirrors, and windshield wipers.
- Tests drive vehicles and utilize diagnostic tools (e.g., infrared analyzers, compression gauges, and computerized systems) to verify performance.
- Follows maintenance checklists to inspect critical components such as belts, hoses, steering, brakes, fuel systems, and other potentially troublesome areas.
- Plans and performs repair procedures using technical manuals, charts, and prior experience.
- Tests and adjusts repaired systems to meet manufacturer’s performance specifications.
- Repairs air conditioning, heating, engine-cooling and electrical systems.
- Performs other related duties and projects as business needs require at direction of management.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum five (5) years of auto mechanic experience specializing in foreign and American cars and trucks required.
- Experience with boats, generators, or other small engines, highly preferred.
- Experience with electrical and diesel vehicles, preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
- Ability to comply with DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing requirements.
- Automotive Mechanic trade school certificate, preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of diagnostic machine operation.
- Demonstrated knowledge of diesel-powered vehicles.
- Advanced knowledge of vehicle systems including engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical, and hydraulics.
- Proficiency in diagnosing mechanical and electrical problems using diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret service manuals, schematics, and work orders.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Pay range: $25.00 to $35.00/hr
