Join Our Team: Labourer 2 – EPCOR Water Services - Labour Pool

 

EPCOR Water Services (EWS) is hiring up to six (6) full-time, temporary Labourer 2 positions to support our Linear Asset Services team at the Aurum site in Edmonton, AB. These roles are for a term of up to 23 months, offering a great opportunity to gain hands-on experience in essential water and wastewater infrastructure work.

 

As a Labourer 2, you’ll play a key role in the construction, repair, maintenance, operations, and treatment of water and wastewater systems across EPCOR departments. If youre someone who thrives in a physically active role, enjoys working outdoors in all weather conditions, and is ready to contribute to vital community services - this could be the perfect fit.

Key Accountabilities – Labourer 2

 

The key responsibilities of the Labourer 2 role include, but are not limited to:

  • Safety Leadership
    • Prioritize safety and actively contribute to a “zero injury” culture.
    • Demonstrate high safety awareness and consistently follow safe work practices.
  • Operational Support
    • Assist with the installation, replacement, and maintenance of water and wastewater collection infrastructure.
    • Support video inspection and proactive flushing of wastewater collection systems.
    • Perform ground disturbance activities, including the installation of protective shoring and shielding.
    • Participate in confined space entries, including access to deep shafts and tunnels.
  • Equipment and Tool Use
    • Operate a variety of tools and equipment, such as power saws, jackhammers, picks, shovels, compressors, air tools, grinders, and drills.
  • Traffic and Material Handling
    • Install and remove temporary traffic control barricades and perform flagging duties in high-volume traffic areas.
    • Deliver materials and equipment across various City of Edmonton locations.
  • Facility Maintenance
    • Carry out utility and maintenance labourer tasks within a treatment plant environment.
  • Compliance
    • Perform all duties in accordance with safety and environmental standards, adhering to Federal, Provincial, EPCOR, and departmental regulations, policies, and procedures.

 

What’s Required to Be Successful

 

To thrive in the Labourer 2 role, candidates should meet the following qualifications and demonstrate the following attributes:

 

Qualifications & Experience

  • High School Diploma (Grade 12), GED, or equivalent secondary education.
  • Minimum of 1 year of related labour experience.
  • Knowledge and experience in water and wastewater infrastructure construction is considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with hazards and safety controls in the water and wastewater industry is considered an asset.
  • Licensing requirements:
    • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License is required; Class 1 or 3Q License is considered an asset.
      • 6 or fewer demerits
      • Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit
      • Driver Abstract may be required
      • Past infractions for unsafe driving may result in non-selection
    • Reliable transportation to and from various job sites and EPCOR facilities.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Capable of meeting the physical demands of the role, including:
    • Regular lifting and carrying of items up to 22 kg (50 lbs.).
    • Performing strenuous physical tasks inherent to the position.
  • Must be FIT Tested - able and willing to wear a respirator due to the nature of the work.

 

Additional Requirements

  • willing to successfully participate and complete the Labourer Competency Passport if not already completed.
