Primary Role:
As the Operations Support Manager, this position provides direction and guidance to the Operations Support team. The Manager plays a key role in day-to-day oversight and coaching of the members of the Team. This position will ensure alignment with processes and efficiencies and handle any escalated issues or cross functional needs within the Arizona and New Mexico operational support function. The position is the primary contact for the financial team when communicating opex and capex budget planning, development, execution and monitoring. The position will take a proactive approach to identify process or quality assurance improvements ensuring consistent business, operational and financial reporting and workflow.  This includes close coordination with each of the four operational divisions, Central, Eastern, San Tan and New Mexico. Excellent communication, organization and ability to liaison with a variety of operational and corporate support functions is key to the success of this position.  As a leader of this team, they will ensure accountability of work and coordinate new initiatives. The position will ensure and foster the EPCOR culture in the day-to-day communication between operations and other business units within the U.S. Water Regulated team.
 
What you’d be responsible for:
  • Manage, coach and develop members of the Operations Specialist/Analysts/Coordinator Team to support an effective and engaged team.
  • Provide direction for their overall work needs and inquiries in support of their administrative, analytical, technical and financial work provided to each Operational Division by the Team. 
  • Collaborate with multiple business areas for alignment of business or operational management systems.
  • Ensure the Operational Specialist/Analyst/Coordinator Team is producing business performance and reports that align across all areas. 
  • Provide business process training to new and existing employees.
  • Work with Operations Team to handle escalated issues or cross functional process needs.
  • Identify process improvements, discrepancies and working with Stakeholders to ensure efficiency.
  • Perform quality assurance reviews to ensure consistent business, operational & financial reporting, and workflow.
  • Support new initiatives, leading, coaching and training the Operations Specialist/Analyst/Coordinator Team. 
  • Prepare necessary relevant spreadsheets and word documents using various software programs as required for daily, weekly and monthly reports.
  • Contact vendors and contractors to coordinate various opex and capex projects.
  • Meets with Division Operational Directors on a regular basis.
  • Develop goals for the department and perform annual performance reviews.
  • Attend or conduct various meetings as needed or directed.
  • Coordinates with Supply Chain to successfully facilitate procurement processes.
  • Travel within Arizona will be required.
  • Perform other duties as required.
 
What’s required to be successful:
  • An Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business or a related field.  
  • Additional certifications related to accounting principles are preferred. Any combination of experience, education and certification providing the skill set necessary to perform the job may be considered.    
  • A minimum of eight (8+) years of technical and professional experience related to financial and budgetary oversight, data management & governance, report generation as it relates to a large utility or business.
  • Five years of supervisory experience is highly preferred.    
  • A good understanding of generally accepted accounting principles and international financial reporting standards.
  • Strong understanding of financial data compilation, management, distribution and oversight as the data relates to expenditure and revenue streams within a large water utility.   
  • Understanding of developing and managing detail budget tracking mechanisms for multiple capital rehabilitation and improvement projects.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience creating and overseeing large complex operating and capital budgets using computerized platforms.
  • Experience managing teams in business environments.
  • Basic understanding of operational practices within water and wastewater systems and treatment facilities.
  • Experience in data management development and oversight.
  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously and use good judgment to prioritize schedule and work tasks to complete work within specified time periods and deadlines.
  • Make complex mathematical calculations and draw logical conclusions, using thoughtful and thorough analysis.
  • Able to encourage staff to advance and grow personally and professionally.
  • Leadership and team building skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (e.g., presentation, listening, report writing). 
  • Strong interpersonal skills (e.g., tact/diplomacy, persuasion, cooperation, ability to motivate others). Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, department directors and the public.
  • A valid AZ Driver’s License
 
Other important facts about this job:
Some travel required: 10-15% Travel throughout the State to visit the various locations of service areas within the U.S. Regulated Water business.
