EPCOR is hiring a temporary, full time Utility Worker for up to 11 months in Edmonton, AB.

 

As a Utility Worker in Underground Transmission, you’ll perform assigned operational tasks with a strong focus on safety. You will work independently and with crews as needed, handling maintenance, cleaning substations, and responding to emergencies.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Clean and maintain substations, switchyards, and EPCOR-owned areas
  • De-water oil containment pits and manage site drainage
  • Safely operate EPCOR vehicles and ensure required documentation is onboard (i.e. insurance, registration, daily trip forms, safety fitness certificates)
  • Assist cablemen, powerline technicians, and equipment operators in completing tasks
  • Provide input to tasks and duties, coordinating with crews, contractors, and the foreman
  • Stock trucks, gather and assemble materials, and load/unload supplies
  • Ensure safety of workers in the air, underground and vicinity of the work zone
  • Read and interpret basic electrical maps and work packages
  • Perform landscaping, concrete work, and general site upkeep
  • Contribute to the development of Safe Work Plans and promote a safe work environment for workers and the public
  • Respond to emergency callouts and uphold OH&S and EPCOR safety practices and standards

What’s required to be successful

  • Grade 12 diploma, GED or equivalent is required
  • Minimum 1 year of utility experience
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License with no more than six demerits
  • Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver's permit
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving skills

 

Preferred assets:

  • Previous related work experience in Electricity Operations
  • Familiarity with EPCOR’s confined space requirements and up to date confined space training
  • Working knowledge of AEUC; EPCOR policies, procedures and work practices; OH&S Act; and First Aid & CPR certification
  • Proven mechanical aptitude and experience operating equipment

You will communicate openly, collaborate to resolve issues, and possess a willingness to learn new skills. A high level of safety awareness is essential, as EPCOR is committed to a zero-injury culture. Class: 8700

Wage: Starting at $24.81 per hour (final wage will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the IBEW1007 Collective Agreement)

Hours of work: 8 hours per day between 07:00 and 18:00 hours; 5 days per week, Monday through Friday; however, in accordance with Article 6.02 of the Agreement, the workweek may be any five consecutive days
