EPCOR is hiring a full-time, permanent Collections Utility Worker (in Training, I, II, or III) to join our San Tan District team. Ideal candidates will have a solid understanding of water and wastewater systems, be comfortable using field equipment and computers, and able to work independently. The position requires flexibility for emergency call-outs and the ability to work in outdoor conditions, including extreme heat. What you’d be responsible for
- Perform skilled installation, maintenance, and repair of Wastewater Collection systems, including sewer laterals, mains, taps, manholes, and associated lift stations.
- Clear blockages, conduct main line cleaning, and support roach control activities.
- Assist team members in addressing customer concerns related to sewer or collection system issues.
- Support Water Distribution operations in addition to wastewater responsibilities.
- Repair and maintain fire hydrants, valves, water meters, water mains, and service lines.
- Support water quality initiatives through system flushing, sampling, flow testing, and preventive maintenance.
- Collaborate with Field Customer Service, Meter Reading, and Line Locating teams to ensure effective field operations.
- Complete work orders, reports, and system documentation using computer‑based tools and applications.
- Perform other work as required.
What’s required to be successful
- Candidate must have thorough understanding of water distribution, and wastewater collection systems.
- Must have knowledge of use of tools and equipment used in the water and wastewater field
- Computer literacy and proficiency required for completing service orders in customer information system.
- Ability to complete reports legibly and accurately on paper and with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, service orders, and maintenance manuals.
- Ability to code time card with up to 50 separate account codes.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions and regulations.
- Ability to work independently when given written and oral instructions.
- Ability to perform standardized water quality tests; ability to operate motor vehicles such as dump trucks, backhoes, valve exerciser, mini-vac unit, and similar equipment.
- Ability to deal effectively and courteously with internal and external customers.
- This position is subject to call back, overtime and week-end/holiday emergency call-outs and call duty.
- Position has the potential for exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, water and sewage.
- Must be able to tolerate extreme heat.
All candidates must have
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Valid Arizona driver’s license with good driving record
Minimum requirements for grade:
Utility Worker in Training: HS Diploma or GED. Valid AZ Driver’s license, Class D.
Utility Worker I: Grade 1 certifications in appropriate area of Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection based on job assignment. HS Diploma or GED. Valid AZ Driver's license, with CDL.
Utility Worker II: Minimum One year of on the job or equivalent experience. Grade 2 certification in
appropriate area of Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection based on job assignment. HS Diploma or GED. Valid AZ Driver's license, with CDL.
Utility Worker III: Minimum Two years of on the job or equivalent experience. Grade 3 certifications in appropriate area of Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection based on job assignment. HS Diploma or GED. Valid AZ Driver's license, with CDL.
