Position Overview
 
The Associate Director, Business Insights & Analytics (BI&A) – Pipeline & Business Development will play a critical strategic role in shaping how the organization evaluates and advances earlystage assets. This position is responsible for leading the design, execution, and management of market research and analytics initiatives that inform pipeline and business development decisions. The role integrates rigorous strategic analysis with actionable insights to guide priorities and support highimpact decisionmaking across the organization.
 
The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in primary and secondary research, with a strong ability to uncover meaningful insights about customers, competitors, and evolving market dynamics. This individual will be accountable for maximizing the value of insights to drive clarity, shape early asset strategy, and ultimately support improved patient outcomes. Success requires not only strategic leadership but also disciplined adherence to internal processes, governance standards, and operational excellence to ensure consistent, highquality execution.
 
This role reports to the Global Head of BI&A and will collaborate closely with crossfunctional partners to ensure insights are embedded into pipeline strategy and business development evaluations.
 
Key Responsibilities
 
  • Partners with Pipeline Commercial Strategy (PCS/pipeline) and BD teams to frame key business questions, investigate and synthesize insights, translate findings into strategic implications for brand/asset evaluation, and guide teams in prioritizing focus and resources based on program needs.
  • Designs and delivers qualitative and quantitative market research projects utilizing third-party vendors to deliver high quality, actionable business insights that support data-informed decisions; sometimes playing a consultative and integrating role for locally-led projects
  • Accountable for providing context and insights to support PCS in preparations for governance committees and ongoing leadership reports, including commercial business reviews, earnings narrative, Portfolio Strategy Reviews (PSRs) and other governance, etc.
  • Proactively assess commercial, clinical, and scientific competitive dynamics and threats, synthesizing insights to recommend insights engagements that can help PCS further guide business decisions and inform strategies
  • Drives an efficient workplan by establishing a cohesive pipeline/BD insights and analytics plan and calendar across crossfunctional partners.
  • Maintains the pipeline/BD knowledge management library, capturing all enterprise insightsgeneration activities
  • Delivers objective, insightdriven guidance by pairing rigorous analytics with clear, compelling storytelling to influence decisionmaking.
  • Ensures teams remain current on emerging insights and analytics capabilities, evaluating and introducing new approaches when they add strategic value.
  • Leads the team’s insights and analytics procurement, contracting, and project execution, maintaining strong operational discipline and alignment with BI&A best practices and policies.
Minimum Qualifications
 
  • A passion for improving patient and business outcomes
  • BA/BS in science or business required. MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • 7+ years experience in a commercial capability within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry or life science or strategy consulting experience, 4+ years in market research and analytics
  • Experience in understanding brand asset/content, strategy, and tactics
  • Ability to effectively utilize dashboards and data products to derive insights
  • Understands primary and secondary research methodologies with experience managing vendors
  • Proven ability to connect, integrate and synthesize analysis and data into a meaningful ‘so what’ to drive concrete strategic recommendations for brand tactics. Capable of describing relevant caveats in data or in a model and how they relate to business question
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a track record of effectiveness and collaboration as a team player and result-oriented project leader able to develop strong professional relationships with stakeholders
  • Strong leadership and decision-making skills
  • Self-starter who demonstrates energy and enthusiasm, bringing a positive solution-oriented approach to challenges
  • Excellent written and oral communication, presentation, and facilitation skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet deadlines

 

Role is hybrid - requires 2 days onsite in San Rafael, CA.
