Position Summary: 

The Estimator will be responsible for responding to tenders, bid requests, or Requests for Quotation (RFQs) in the industrial, commercial and institutional market by developing accurate, complete and competitive estimates.  

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting a thorough review of specifications and drawings. 
  • Developing thorough material take-offs and labor take-offs. 
  • Coordinating price packages with suppliers, subcontractors, owners, designers and architects regarding tenders/bid requests. 
  • Review of the estimate with the Project Manager(s), Service Managers and/or Foreman to ensure all in agreement with labour, material, equipment, and subcontracting costs. 
  • Preparing tenders by quantifying, organizing, and tabulating all material, equipment, labour, and subcontract costs needed to complete the project. 
  • Liaise with Procurement to assist in obtaining pricing on aspects of the estimate 
  • Participating in site review, tender review, tender hand-off, project closing and operational/sector meetings with the Regional Manager, Project Manager, and Service Manager when and where required. 
  • Provide guidance on opportunities that come in, on viability, possibility of winning, possibility of extras, risks, etc. to help guide the team on the best prospects to chase. 
  • Prepare risk review for the PM and/or SM to help collaborate on the prepared estimate. 
  • Providing assistance to the sales force in developing proposals may be required. 
  • Review tender closing documents and obtain signed/sealed, bonding/insurance certificates, etc. 
  • Track all bids and proposals in an excel sheet and submit them to Project Admin for entry into the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) Tool. 
  • Utilize estimating software in the estimating function. Work to enhance it, streamline, improve, etc. with the software provider in its functioning for Ainsworth. 
  • Work in a team environment to help each other and collectively be successful 
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures. 
  • Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by and in accordance with all applicable Health, Safety and Environmental company policies and government legislation/regulations. 
  • Adhere to the Company’s Quality System operating procedures. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management. 

  Qualifications: 

  • Minimum 5 years estimating experience in HVAC, Hydronics and Plumbing. 
  • Post Secondary Degree or higher. 
  • Familiar with Building Code and Plumbing Code. 
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications (Excel is essential). 
  • Ability to adapt to new software and applications as required. 
  • A Trade Certificate would be a great asset. 
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills. 
  • The ability to communicate effectively both written and verbal, is essential. 
  • Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize and meet strict deadlines.
