The Role:  Xylem seeks to hire a Senior EHSSS (Environmental, Health, Safety, Sustainability and Security) Coordinator. This position leads the development, implementation, and evaluation of critical safety and environmental process and procedures in order to achieve a zero-injury and NOV environment. The candidate provides leadership and applies technical abilities to engage employees at all levels of the organization in order to sustain world-class safety and environmental processes. The position is involved in machine safety to ensure that production is efficient and reliable systems are simple to operate.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

  • Development, implement, and ensure compliance in EHSSS (Environmental, Health, Safety, Sustainability and Security)
  • Develop and implement required safety programs and supporting training including but not limited to Lock Out Tag Out, exposure control, Hazard communication, electrical safety, confined space, hazard assessment and PPE program.
  • Provide expert technical support in identifying, and resolving, critical regulatory issues
  • Evaluate EHS activities to determine adherence to corporate policies and programs, as well as Federal, State and Local regulations.
  • Maintain the corporate management systems
  • Oversee compliance with governmental regulations and corporate programs
  • Perform audits and reporting for regulatory compliance, analyze and implement solutions of all environmental permits and processes (NPDES, SPCC, EPCRA, Form R, site wide disposal efforts, etc. and remediation activities.
  • Execute onsite support services for the entire life-cycle of a hazardous materials management programs at client sites by performing chemical inventories, segregating chemicals, and shipping hazardous waste off-site
  • Respond to chemical spill emergencies by managing the containment, clean up, and disposal of hazardous materials
  • Ensures compliance with site security and emergency preparedness
  • Development and perform routine training related to EHSSS
  • Lead EHSSS expertise and contribute to the compliance of Corporate, State and Federal EHSSS policies and regulations.
  • Lead safety teams (ergo, safety committees, risk reduction teams, etc)
  • Perform environmental regulatory inspections for Air, Water, Waste, etc and analyze results of the inspections.
  • Lead sustainability efforts to reduce waste to landfill, electricity, nature gas, water use, etc.
  • Develop and implementation of programs designed to Continuous Improvement EHS efforts
  • Lead waste management efforts
  • Direct Operation in achieving overall facility compliance and place focus on moving beyond compliance    
  • Evaluate work activities to coordinate exposure monitoring. Act as liaison to production supervision and personnel for exposure monitoring results, recommendations, and control strategies
  • Maintain and distribute weekly/monthly statistical health and safety reports to senior management
  • Ensure required emergency response planning has been conducted and implemented
  • Interface with supervisor and managers regarding health and safety matters
  • Interact with vendors and contractors.
  • Maintain confined space permits and air monitoring equipment
  • Perform and develop Job Hazard Analysis, system auditing, and ergonomic task analysis
  • Monitor contractor safety compliance
  • Knowledge of Workers’ Compensation Laws
  • Must be able to organize, direct control and coordinate the services.
  • Critical thinking and good problem solving skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Minimum Qualifications: Education, Experience, Skills, Abilities, License/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred in any EHS related field or technical sciences from an accredited school
    • Or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 7+ years of experience in the field or in a related manufacturing environment
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership and communication skills.
  • Project management experience
  • Ability to influence change
  • Proficient computer skills
