Director of Safety & Security

Safety and Security Highlands Ranch, Colorado

Description

ROLE DESCRIPTION
Director of Safety & Security
This position offices in-person, on campus
ROLE SUMMARY
The Director of Safety & Security is responsible for the strategic development, implementation and oversight of a comprehensive, forward-thinking safety & security program at a school of 1,200 students, with 200 faculty and staff, on a 35-acre suburban campus with multiple buildings. One of the primary reasons parents select a private independent school is for the safety and security of their student and Valor Christian is looking to enhance its security posture while still maintaining a vibrant Christ-centered culture. The school is seeking an individual with extensive experience, vision and competencies in all areas required to successfully achieve this goal. Since the school’s inception in 2007, significant investments have been made campus-wide yet there remains a desire to do more. Valor Christian currently has an iron security fence on the north perimeter of the property with automated vehicular gates, security cameras throughout the campus, access control on all exterior doors, after-hours security presence, a Campus Protection Agent, and a School Resource Officer (SRO) on campus when school is in session. The relationship the school has with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office continues to be strong.
The individual in this role must be exceptionally skilled in many areas, be able to lead people well, think critically, and anticipate threats both internally and externally. Strong situational awareness is a must. In addition, this individual must understand the unique environment of a private school and delicately balance the needs for a strong program with the desire to maintain a thriving high school culture.
The Director of Safety & Security will work closely with the Chief Financial and Operating Officer, the Chief of Parent and Student Affairs, the Deans office, and the SRO on a regular basis. In addition, this individual will assemble and lead the Safety & Security Leadership Team and the Safety & Security Committee, serve on the Threat Assessment Team, the Crisis Management Team and be the school’s Incident Commander.
You are most likely to thrive in this role if you love the Lord Jesus Christ and are adept at integrating your faith into your daily work. A relentless commitment to keep the Valor Christian community safe must be a passion that drives you and must always be on your mind. Understanding the difference between law enforcement and developing a proactive safety & security program to protect the campus is key. Being a life-long learner and fully engaged in this field of study will also help you be successful and keep this program recognized as one of the very best in the nation.
Valor Christian High School is a decidedly Christian, college preparatory school whose core values honor a biblical foundation. Valor employees are faith-filled, joyful believers who are active in a local, Christian church whose beliefs are in alignment with the school’s Statement of Beliefs. They are both called and committed to the school’s vision and mission and seamlessly integrate faith into their daily work. You will be most successful if you have a true servant’s heart, a teachable spirit, a love for the Lord Jesus Christ, and a commitment to the school’s beliefs and values.
