Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School is seeking a full-time Associate or Full Professor of Public Administration to teach in our NASPAA-accredited Master of Public Administration program, beginning academic year 2021-2022.  Candidates should be able to teach and perform research in core areas of public administration, in particular performance measurement, management and improvement.  The ideal candidate would direct the highly-regarded National Center for Public Performance.  With the assistance of a full-time managing director, the faculty director would oversee organization of an annual conference, the Strategic Performance Management certificate, publications and projects that support the work of public and nonprofit organizations nationally and internationally.  Strong interest in practitioner collaboration and applied research are preferred.   

The Institute for Public Service consists of 8 participating faculty members, supported by a strong group of part-time faculty who are engaged practitioners of public and nonprofit management.  The course load for the faculty position consists of five classes during the academic year, but would have a course release as Director of the NCPP.  We offer course content to meet the ever-changing public service community with comprehensive skills in leadership, ethics, organizational change, and financial and strategic management. Located in the heart of downtown Boston, Suffolk University’s Sawyer Business School has over 100 full-time faculty members and offers full-time and part-time, undergraduate and graduate degree programs.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Public Affairs/Administration or related field.
  • Ongoing research and teaching experience.

 Position Responsibilities

  • Teach graduate and some undergraduate students both in person as well as online.
  • Serve as Faculty Director of the National Center for Public Performance.
  • Actively participate in the life of the department, college, and university through departmental services, faculty committees, faculty meetings, and other faculty activities.
