Intro:

We are seeking a Senior Android Developer (Long Term Contractor) to join a high-impact mobile engineering team supporting a major client of ours. This role involves building and enhancing a flagship native Android application.

You’ll work with modern Android development tools, Kotlin-first codebases, and established architecture patterns. The role also includes helping support and modernize existing Java components. The ideal candidate is a strong Kotlin developer capable of navigating ambiguity, learning quickly, and working autonomously in a fast-paced enterprise environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Design, develop, and maintain native Android applications using Kotlin and core Android frameworks.
  • Collaborate with designers, product owners, and backend teams to build new features and improve existing functionality.
  • Write clean, maintainable, testable code, and participate in structured code reviews.
  • Implement and maintain application architecture including dependency injection, networking, modularization, and build systems.
  • Work with existing Java codebases and contribute to modernization efforts.
  • Troubleshoot complex issues, optimize performance, and deliver stable, high-quality app experiences.
  • Understand and refine ambiguous requirements, taking ownership of deliverables with minimal direction.
  • Follow Android best practices and industry standards to ensure application security, reliability, and accessibility.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement.

What We’d Like to See:

  • 5+ years of professional Android development experience building and shipping native apps.
  • Strong expertise with Kotlin, with working knowledge of Java.
  • Experience with core Android libraries and tools, including Jetpack components (ViewModel, LiveData, Room, Navigation, DataStore, etc.).
  • Proficiency with modern Android UI frameworks (XML-based UI; familiarity with Jetpack Compose is a plus).
  • Strong understanding of networking, RESTful APIs, Retrofit/OKHttp, and asynchronous programming (coroutines, flows).
  • Experience with dependency injection (Hilt, Dagger, or Koin).
  • Solid understanding of Android app architecture patterns such as MVVM, MVC, MVP, Clean Architecture, or Multi-Module setups.
  • Ability to independently drive tasks to completion and work effectively with unclear or evolving requirements.
  • Strong debugging, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience working on large-scale, enterprise-grade Android apps.
  • Familiarity with secure coding standards, compliance-heavy environments, or financial/insurance applications.
  • Experience with build and CI/CD tools (Gradle, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Bitrise, etc.).
  • Understanding of analytics, event logging, A/B testing, and feature flagging tools.
  • Accessibility experience following WCAG and Android accessibility guidelines.
