Position: Scrum Master

Reports To: Director, SW Development

Location: Chicago, IL

Position Summary

The Scrum Master is responsible for improving interactions between the Scrum team and the organization in order to maximize productivity. A Scrum Master arranges and facilitates the team’s meetings such as the daily Scrum, planning sessions, and the sprint retrospective. In this role you'll be clearing obstacles to the team, establishing an environment where the team can be most effective, maintaining healthy team dynamics, and preventing needless interruptions and distractions. To be successful, you must foster a good relationship between the team and various stakeholders including the product team, product owner, and executive team.

From your seat in our beautiful new office in downtown Chicago, you will have access to many key teammates to help respond to client requests timely.  Our office is in the heart of the loop with very convenient access to all major public transportation lines.  Please be aware we are onsite with a traditional work schedule and are not offering remote nor hybrid roles at this time.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Foster transparency by encouraging inspection and adaptation.
  • Lead daily scrum, sprint review, and planning meetings to ensure full team engagement. 
  • Partner with the Product Owner to enable sprint and release planning.
  • Work to keep backlog healthy and prepared for execution.
  • Anticipate and address potential impediments to team delivery.
  • Foster close cooperation across all team members; encourage cross-training and team support.
  • Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be freely discussed.
  • Track metrics to aid the team in planning, visibility, and throughput maximization.
  • Cultivate a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Training

  • Knowledge of software development and relevant domains.
  • Extensive knowledge of technological concepts, strategies, methodologies, architectures, and standards.
  • One or more relevant Agile certifications such as Certified Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM).
  • Ability to coach stakeholders on agile practices and ensure adherence to agile methodology.
  • Mediation skills with the ability to facilitate discussion.
  • Able to deliver complex messages and teach new concepts.
  • Enthusiastic team player with outstanding organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience as Release Train Engineer is a plus.
  • Experience in the cloud, DevOps IT-related projects is a plus.
  • Experience in eDiscovery sales engineering or consulting is a plus.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience in the Scrum Master role for at least two years for a software product.
