Head of Safety & Health

 

Responsibilities:

  • Overall owner of company safety strategies, programs, and results, championing and driving the Company’s Zero Severe Injury Vision and Safety Is a Condition mindset
  • Participates in the development of enterprise-wide strategy development, implementation, and oversight
  • Develops, maintains, and monitors compliance with corporate safety and health processes
  • Provides leadership, direction, and support to Area Safety & Health Directors
  • Develops, supports, and executes processes to reduce injuries and illness rates
  • Tracks metrics and drives health and safety improvement and performance
  • Manages all health and safety regulatory reporting requirements and processes
  • Assures effective case management through excellent communication with appropriate internal (Legal, Safety and Risk groups) and external contacts, timely and relevant medical specialty assessments and organizational strategies which maximize employee health and productivity
  • Assist in the performance evaluation of the Occupational Health Departments through on-site and desk audits
  • Work closely with site teams and Third-Party Administrator on new and existing Workers Compensation claims
  • Provide focus to drive ownership and accountability of leading performance indicators, e.g., observations, interventions, ergonomics, site reviews
  • Responsible for 13 direct reports
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field (Safety, Nursing, etc.)
  • 10-15 years of experience in safety and occupational health in a multi-site environment
  • Previous Pilgrim’s experience highly preferred
  • Occupational safety experience in a manufacturing, food processing, or similar industry preferred
  • Experience supporting occupational health and workers compensation preferred
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to travel 40% to 50%
  • Can perform the functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation

 

The applicant who fills this position will be eligible for the following compensation and benefits:

  • Benefits: Vision, Medical, and Dental coverage begin after 60 days of employment;
  • Paid Time Off: sick leave, vacation, and 6 company observed holidays;
  • 401(k): company match begins after the first year of service and follows the company vesting schedule;
  • Base salary range of $160,000 – $190,000;
  • Incentive Pay: This position is eligible to participate in the Company’s annual bonus plan, the amount of bonus varies and is subject to the standard terms and conditions of the incentive program; and
