ABOUT THE SCHOOL

Majarlin Kimberley Centre for Remote Health (Majarlin) is a University Department of Rural Health (UDRH) based on the University’s Broome campus. Majarlin’s aim is to contribute to strengthening the allied health and nursing workforce in the Kimberley.  This is achieved through student placement, clinician support, teaching and research. 

 

POSITION PURPOSE

The Clinical Educator – Occupational Therapy is responsible for the provision of the Occupational Therapy component of the Work Readiness Program and provides supervision to Occupational Therapy students completing clinical placements throughout the Kimberley.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist occupational therapy student learning by taking a student-centred approach. This includes providing a patient and supportive environment and manage the student assessments.
  2. Develop educational activities, resources and learning objectives for students
  3. Demonstrate of clinical expertise and professional role modelling
  4. Scope new clinical placement opportunities for occupational therapy students
  5. Communicate regularly with students’ parent universities and conduct administrative functions connected to student supervision
  6. Establish service learning placements and delivering learning opportunities
  7. Develop student activities for school holidays and encourage and assist students to be involved in community activities
  8. Provide teaching, mentoring, orientation and training sessions as required
  9. Participate in the development and delivery of Majarlin multi-disciplinary education and support programs and networking opportunities for students and health professionals throughout the Kimberley
  10. Evaluate student performance consistent with the relevant unit objectives and occupational therapy assessment requirements, including The Student Practice Evaluation Form – Revised (Second Edition) (SPEF-R2©).
  11. Assist the Majarlin researchers, research projects and resource development
  12. Carry out activities to maintain and develop scholarship and research expertise relevant to the discipline
  13. Available after hours as required to assist students, attend networking and promotional events and travel.
  14. Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety standards and guidelines including identifying, assessing and controlling health and safety risks in the workplace; and
  15. Other duties as directed by the Director, Academic Lead Allied Health, MKCRH or delegate.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA

 

Essential

  1. Supportive of the Objects of Notre Dame as a Catholic University.
  2. Committed to teaching in the context of the Code of Ethical Standards for Catholic Health and Aged Care Services.

 

Qualifications & Experience

  1. Current and unrestricted “C” Class Drivers Licence
  2. Currently registered Occupational Therapist with Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA)
  3. Minimum of five (5) years post-registration clinical experience and supervision of students
  4. Experience in working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  5. Experience in providing assessments and intervention in paediatric (early intervention and school aged children) and adult (including aged care) caseloads.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  1. Excellent time management and interpersonal skills with a high level of initiative and problem-solving abilities
  2. Able to travel and stay overnight in remote communities if required

 

Desirable

  1. Demonstrates an outstanding level of pastoral care to students and works autonomously whilst still regularly communicating with the team
  2. Postgraduate qualifications or willingness to undertake further study
