WNYC Studios seeks a highly skilled and collaborative associate producer.

What you should possess is a way with hosts and reporters, a knack for collaborating with both talent and the larger production team (EP, reporters, editor, engineer, sound designer, etc.), and also an ability to work independently at various stages of the process.

This role involves creative and ruthless booking, nimble tape cutting, collaborative scripting, and detailed administrative tasks.

The Associate Producer reports to the Senior Producer and assists the host in creating content for the podcast, the website, and live shows. The successful candidate will be passionate, curious and informed about a wide range of topics, an exceptional writer, a skilled communicator, and savvy in the use of digital media.

  • Perform soup-to-nuts production tasks, including identifying and interviewing sources for on-air and off, researching topics for air, booking, prepping host, writing scripts, researching and fact-checking, cutting and editing tape, including host tracks and interview tape.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including marketing, social media press, sales, and digital teams. 
  • Serve as a liaison between the host and WNYC: book studio time; book host as a guest on WNYC shows; assist in collaborations with other WNYC productions.
  • Communicate constantly and clearly with other members of the team.
  • Write and populate content for website/CMS.
  • Develop original content for social media.
  • Write promotional copy for internal and external use.
  • Assist in managing and tracking the editorial content of the show.
  • Manage administrative tasks as needed.
  • Manage interns as needed. 


  • At least 3 years experience producing narrative or talent-driven content
  • Demonstrated success in the creation of superb content under pressure
  • Familiarity with and curiosity about a range of social justice issues, and unresolved debates over how to build an equitable society
  • Experience with booking, pre-interviewing, tape cutting, story development, and host management
  • Experience with audio editing and sound design 
  • Familiarity with and curiosity about a range of social justice issues, and unresolved debates over how to build an equitable society
  • Top-notch organizational skills, attention to detail, deadlines, and time-management
  • Experience working with talent, especially talent with zero experience in radio
  • Ability to multitask with flair
  • An independent work ethic combined with a love for and patience with the collaborative process
  • Not too good or too fancy to pitch in at any point to support your peers
  • Excited by other ideas, not just your own. Ability to shape others’ ideas and deftly weave yours into the process
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
