Music Coordinator, WQXR

The Music Coordinator is a critical member of the WQXR team, helping provide the audience with a great listening experience. The Coordinator is responsible for supporting all systems and materials used for programming and playing audio on WQXR and its associated digital properties. The Coordinator will help ensure the smooth and continuous operation of the company’s music channels by managing the digital library, loading logs, and performing daily quality checks on all materials scheduled for air. 

The Music Coordinator will report to the Senior Operations Manager and interface daily with the Programming team, on-air hosts, digital team, listener services  and content producers. They will also be the liaison for Listener Services on all questions regarding music programming.


  • Load and qc hosts Voice Track in NexGen
  • Prepare and load music and other audio (imaging and inbound shows) for play-out on all music channels
  • QC daily programming logs
  • Work with digital team to ensure online content accurately reflects on-air content and monitor accuracy of online playlists
  • Assist with scheduling of imaging and promotional pieces on air
  • Assist with regular maintenance of programming databases 
  • Report play histories to ASCAP, BMI and SoundExchange
  • Provide training for new users of music programming software
  • Troubleshoot any problems with programming and play-out systems
  • Audition, research, add music to our catalog as needed
  • Help coordinate, research, rip music for specialty programming (Classical Countdown, festivals, etc.) as needed
  • Assist with creating Daily Playlist emails using Marketing Cloud


  • Experience in radio and/or audio operations preferred 
  • Knowledge of programming software (MusicMaster, G-Selector) and playout software (NexGen, Zetta, Wide Orbit) a plus
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple, overlapping projects and associated production deadlines
  • Demonstrates attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication skills both oral and written
  • Interest in classical music a plus 
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with the other music staff, executives at WNYC/WQXR, colleagues, industry representatives and cultural partners 
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed

This is a full-time role that includes benefits. New York Public Radio offers competitive compensation with excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance, and paid time off benefits including vacation, sick time and parental leave. 

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic this role is currently operating in a remote capacity. However, this position is not a permanent remote position and is part of the New York City staff, and may be expected to work fully from the New York office when it is safe to do so.
