Director, Partnerships & Business Development

New York Public Radio (NYPR) produces innovative public radio programs, podcasts, and live events that touch a passionate community of more than 24 million people monthly across five different media brands: WNYC, Gothamist, WNYC Studios, WQXR, and The Greene Space. 

The Director, Partnerships & Business Development will play a leading, cross-functional role in supporting NYPR’s mission by leading:

  • Content partnerships: Structuring new content partnership opportunities and managing existing partners 
  • Digital distribution: Developing and managing relationships with major distribution platforms
  • Content monetization: Identifying new and innovative revenue opportunities 


Content partnerships:
  • Structure, negotiate, and develop new content partnerships (e.g., draft term sheets, build financial models, analyze / synthesize the business case, negotiate with counterparties) 
  • Serve as the owner and relationship manager for our existing portfolio of content partners, which includes both co-production partners (e.g., New Yorker Radio Hour) and content distribution partners (e.g., Science Friday)
Digital distribution:
  • Represent NYPR in establishing and deepening relationships with key technology companies and distribution platforms (e.g., Apple, Spotify, Stitcher, SiriusXM, Amazon)
  • Identify new distribution opportunities to grow our audience
  • Monitor / analyze developments and trends in the media industry, and advise NYPR leadership on implications for NYPR’s strategy 
Content monetization:
  • Identify, assess, and negotiate new and innovative revenue opportunities 
  • Own a multi-million-dollar portfolio of existing distribution, licensing, and ancillary revenue deals
Strategy and special projects:
  • Support strategy projects and cross-functional, high-priority special projects
  • Serve as a key thought partner and business advisor to the senior leadership team


  • Relevant experience leading full workstreams at a top-tier strategy consulting firm (e.g., Engagement Manager, Case Team Leader) or investment bank (e.g., Associate, Vice President), leading strategy and/or business development projects at a media organization, or similar experience
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience building trusted relationships with senior executives and external stakeholders
  • Strong quantitative analysis skills, including experience building financial models in Excel and analyzing data to build a business case
  • Effective negotiator, with confidence around term sheets and contracts
  • Comfort working cross-functionally and managing projects that involve people with a range of different skills and responsibilities 
  • Highly organized, with demonstrated success effectively managing multiple competing priorities 
  • Familiar with concepts and the business landscape for digital and traditional media
