What we offer
Reporting to the Contacts Manager, the Purchasing Specialist provides support to our procurement process including tendering, contract management, estimating and cost analysis. They’ll be responsible for purchasing services while adhering to generally accepted home building principles & Mattamy standards and working to provide The Best Homeowner Experience.
What you’ll do
- Responsible for information and data entry into BuildPro and JD Edwards (JDE) systems, and act as a gatekeeper to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance.
- Coordination of tender process including documentation, pricing and follow ups for incomplete submissions.
- Manage Trade Portal Website to ensure proper access to documents and coherent record keeping.
- Review drawings for consistency between architecture, sales & marketing information and verify conformance with JDE requirements.
- Assist in Architectural Choice Options (ACO) & Site/Lot Specific cost build ups.
- Support the Design Studio with updating, maintaining, and sourcing new products.
- Maintain and update the Design Center Option Master database in JDE as needed.
- Assist with managing lumber takeoffs.
- Utilize Building Information Modeling (BIM) technology along with working or design drawings to prepare accurate quantity take-offs and support estimating processes for budgets and tenders.
- Assist with the analysis of cost comparison and differences in products and services.
- Support the Change Order process by soliciting updated pricing and manage applicable Purchase Orders (POs) in JDE.
- Assist in resolving trade and/or builder concerns and provide clarity to sites related to upgrades, options sold and scopes of work.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with subcontractors, construction team members and supervisors.
- Participate in site visits to verify trade performance and revise take-offs based on actual site conditions.
- Ensure suppliers receive current scopes, architectural drawings and required documents, and provide forecasting to manufacturers and trades as needed.
- Release POs in alignment with construction schedules.
- Conduct new trade orientations including preparing slide decks prior to onsite work.
- Assist in reviewing project budgets and preparing features and finish lists (schedule A’s) for each community.
What you bring
- College Diploma in Architectural or Civil Technology or a University degree in Civil, Mechanical or Materials Engineering.
- 1-3 years of progressive experience in a related role.
- Strong analytical and mathematical aptitude with an understanding of budget, tender, and construction processes.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Critical thinker with strong attention to detail.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to create budget templates and prepare reports.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational, time management and problem solving skills.
- Willingness to learn and grow professionally.
Bonus points
- Experience using software such as JD Edwards, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Power Bi, MS Fabric.
- Experience working in the construction industry.
- Familiarity with the Ontario Building Code (Part 9 & Part 3).
